By:Sandra Stammberger
Since the start of the world, people are already fond of keeping animals as pets. People already domesticated animals in their homes or household as companion or as a habit.
Pets are animals that are kept for companionship and enjoyment, as opposed to livestock which are kept for economic reasons. The most popular are noted for their loyal or playful characteristics of their attractive appearance or song.
The most common animals that are being kept as pets are the cat and dog. They became so much popular because of the distinct characteristics that have shown since the beginning.
Today, majority of the household have at least one pet cat or dog. These pets are more than just animals sharing our homes; they are members of the family.
Keeping pets means giving food. Just like humans, foods are necessary for pet’s survival. Foods that are given to pets may be home made or commercially prepared.
The first commercially prepared pet food was a dog biscuit introduced in England about 1860. Since then, pet foods have expanded to include canned, dry, and semi moist foods to meet a wide variety of nutritional needs.
Pet owners today have a tremendous choice of products to choose from but all pets foods have one thing in common; decades of effort and research have gone into each and every commercially produced pet food product ensures that it provides the proper nutrition for pet especially pet dog or cat.
The most popular pet food that is commercially produced is for pet dog. There are varieties of choices of pet food for dogs. The formula of pet food for dogs ranges from pet food for puppies to large or adult dog and it is also according to breeds.
Pet foods for puppies have correct balance of fat, protein and other essential nutrients that ensures that the puppy receives the proper nutrients to grow strong and healthy. To those large breed puppies, there are especially formulated pet foods that provide the correct levels of nutrients that large puppies need.
For dogs that are athletic, the pet foods for them are especially designed to give active nutritional support they need to stay in peak physical condition at work or play. These pet foods are formulated with a precise balance of high quality protein and fat to promote the building of healthy muscle tissue and to give extra energy to maintain stamina.
To those hardworking canine athletes, there are also especially formulated pet foods for them that contain the perfect balance of fat and protein to enhance strength, endurance and energy. Some of pet foods for these dog types contain glucosamine and chondroitin supplement to help maintain healthy joints.
The dogs that are moderately active, the pet food for them are designed and formulated with complete and balance diet with added benefits which promote good health and long life.
Overweight dogs are prone to certain health risks, so the pet foods that are developed for them have formula for their special needs. The pet foods are enriched with glucosamine and chondroitin supplements for healthy joint and cartilage.
Since dogs keep in growing, it is necessary to change its diet. Switching the pet to a new food should be a gradual process because the pet’s digestive system is sensitive to diet changes.
The commercially produced pet foods are good for pets because they are made and formulated with the necessary nutrients and vitamins the pets needs. They are essential for their growth and continuity.
