Crappie Fishing Reports

By:Daniel Eggertsen

While some fishermen simply enjoy the idea of being out on the lake, relaxing and casting a line every once in awhile, many anglers are definitely more interested in catching fish. Because some fish, including crappie, can be finicky about weather and certain lake conditions, crappie fishing reports can be important to judgment regarding where the best fishing can be found on any particular day.

Crappie fishing reports are available in papers, other periodicals, and online. Online resources are excellent, due to their ability to be updated quickly and easily, meaning that you'll find the latest information on fishing conditions. Most states have their own websites providing these details, typically published by the wildlife resource agencies or parks and wildlife departments, both trusted resources for such pertinent information for fishermen.

What will you find on crappie fishing reports? That depends on the site that you look at or the periodical that you choose to consult. Crappie fishing reports and their contents can also vary by location. For example, on the State of Tennessee website, you'll find crappie fishing reports divided up by the four state regions. Within each regional page, you'll find further divisions for particular lakes within that region. Tennessee anglers have excellent resources here, with detailed information provided for each individual lake, including the lake temperature and level, the type of fish to expect (as well as their location in the lake and depth at which they are found), and the best bait to use for each type of fish.

Unfortunately, not all sites are updated as often as Tennessee's; however, some of these sites offer information on several states. For example, while Nodak Outdoors concentrates on North Dakota crappie fishing reports, you can also find information on fishing in South Dakota and Minnesota on this site. This could be because the format of the crappie fishing reports portion of the site is a forum, allowing anyone to put in his or her two cents' worth of input on how fishing is. There are two downsides to this format. First of all, there is no guarantee of regular updates because there is no one entity providing the information. Also, crappie fishing reports could be inaccurate due to a fisherman being in the wrong area of a lake or using the wrong bait. Still, it is a resource that can be used to find information on fishing in the north central portion of the United States.
