GIVE YOUR BATHROOM A QUICK MAKEOVER
By:Mary Miles
Is your bathroom beginning to look a bit dingy or dull ? Want to liven it up a little without spending a fortune remodeling? Then it's time to give your bathroom a quick and easy makeover.
i) Shower Curtains :
Because of space constraints in the average bathroom, shower curtains are often a focal point - whether you want them to be or not. So, it's time to say farewell to that old, grey, slightly mildewed shower curtain and replace it with something more stylish.
These days there are shower curtains that will suit any style or taste - from colorful tropical scenes to abstract and contemporary designs. Spend a good amount of time selecting your new shower curtains so that you can design the rest of your bathroom around them. It's best to opt for mildew-resistant, washable shower curtains that are guaranteed to retain their color over a long period of time. And, for the environmentally aware among you, you should be careful to avoid standard plastic curtains, choosing the Greenpeace approved PEVA equivalent, instead.
ii) Shower Curtain Accessories :
You can add some neat touches to your bathroom by choosing curtain hooks or rings to match your decor, or better yet, if you really want to make an impact you could purchase a hookless rod.. Hookless rods are unique and don't require the use of rings or hooks - they can be a great addition to the clean lines of your bathroom. Have a small shower area and need unique shower rod solution? Try a Dinella. When not in use, this unique fixture can be pushed flat against your shower wall, making your bathroom feel much larger, giving you that modern, designer feel you are looking for..
iii) Bathroom Accessories :
Do you have a toothbrush holder that you picked up at your local discount store, a cute soap dish picked up while visiting Europe and a set of tumblers that is more mix than match ? If so, it's time to be ruthless. It's time to get co-ordinated with a set of bathroom accessories that match not only each other but the overall feel of your bathroom. From porcelain to stainless steel or even hard-wearing acrylic, there are so many designs and styles to choose from, you are sure to liven up your bathroom with something that suits your bathroom décor and unique taste.
v) Bath Rugs:
Most bathrooms have either tiled or linoleum floors, which are cold to the touch. A well-chosen bath rug will keep your feet warm, as well as transform the look of your bathroom. You can match the color scheme of your shower curtains, add a needed splash of color to an otherwise plain room, or get a rug custom made for your bathroom. The choice is, of course, yours. There's no need to limit yourself to old fashioned, one-color rugs - there are plenty of bathroom rugs out there that will suit you and your bathroom perfectly.
iv) Lighting and Fixtures :
Choosing different lighting, adding mirrors to create the illusion of space; even replacing your faucets, can make a great difference to the look of your bathroom. Subtle lighting could be used to make your bathroom more cozy, for example. Whatever theme you have established for your bathroom makeover, the right lighting and fixtures are an important part of making it happen.
