Choosing the Right International Car Shipping Company

By:John Morris

When you think of shipping you usually think of crates and goods and passengers and food and cars - wait! Cars? Yes, cars! It may not seem that popular but transporting cars through ships is a good option for some people. If you plan to get your car across the seas you will need a good shipping service. And since shipping cars isn’t something common for most people, you might find yourself in quite a fix when considering how to find a good car shipping company.

1. Shipping Companies

Many different people and organizations enlist the help of a shipping company for several different reasons. Individuals use shipping companies to transport valuable vehicles, antique cars that can’t be driven over longer distances and even just to transport the family car to a new home while they fly. Companies may use a shipping company to move their fleet cars during a relocation and showrooms obviously use them for transporting their cars from the manufacturers to there showrooms.

In paper, it is quite simple. In car shipping services, you pay someone to transport your car to another location while primarily using a ship. Pretty simple, huh? It sounds good but when you think of the risks involved, that’s when your stomach starts to tighten.

2. Plan Beforehand

It is understandable that those who are not used to this type of transaction to have misgivings and such regarding these things. This is made more complicated by the fact that cars are not things you can just buy everyday. These are investment that you plan to use for a long time! And the quality in which these items return to you is vital to your decisions regarding its transport.

3. Shop Around - Get A Good Quote

Before agreeing to any one transport service, always shop around. Compare prices among reputable vehicle transport services. Don’t entrust your vehicle to services that have a generally bad record. Make sure you study the history of a company. Ask your friends who have gone through the same thing to advise you on good transport services. Inquire as to insurance just in case.

4. Price

- Can you afford the price?
- Does the package suit your needs?
- Could you end up paying more afterwards if you get low-quality service?
- Does the company have any leeway for you to haggle on the price?
- What perks are available?

5. Know What You Need

Do you need a door-to-door service that delivers your car right to your doorstep? Do you need the shipping to handle your vehicle with extra care? Do you have any particular shipping needs? If so, you need to discuss these matters with the shipping services you interview. They will tell you what they can do, and what they can’t do. Make sure you take note of everything the shipper says, and document every promise he makes.

Ask the shipper if they can offer reimbursement if they are not able to fulfill their promises. You have to make this clear or else you will have trouble with your shipper. The terms you wish for and the expectations you have must be mutually agreed. If you allow your vehicle to be transported carelessly, you could end up with a badly handled vehicle. To avoid this you can have your transport service insure your vehicle.
