However, how can you be sure to capitalise on the times where there are sales and ensure that you get the best deal? How can you know where to look, and how can you drive a salesman down as low as he can go?

1. Know what you are talking about. Research the market and be confident that you are aware of pricing and what other people are charging for similar products. Once you know what you are talking about you will be able to hold your own whilst taking to a sofa salesman.

Look online, offline and especially look for any sales items that you can find available. If you go into a store and there is a sale on do not assume that you are looking at the cheapest sofa in the world. Stop, think and look around first. Do not fall for the limited addition stuff, until you have been able to compare.

4. Is the price of your dream sofa far too high? Consider buying a second hand sofa. Yes folks, you heard me right. A second hand sofa is an option that you could be considering. When you purchase a sofa second hand, not only do you save money but you might not have to sacrifice quality as much as you would expect. A person is also willing to bargain a lot more than a business, so you can drive there price down lower than you can with a sofa sales person.

5. Try and bargain with however you are buying the sofa from. Point out a flaw in the sofa if you can find it, and do not appear like you are desperate to buy it. If you do that then you can be sure that they will not budge with price. Decide what you are willing to pay and let them know and do not change from it. If you are willing to pay 10% less than the retail price then chances are they will accept the sale.

Once you have bought your sofa, do not forget that insurance and cleaning/maintenance products can be the best investment that you could ever make. Through buying them you could keep your sofa in shape for a lot longer than you otherwise would.

This will help you to have a sofa that will last long, look great and most importantly sell for a higher price than it otherwise would. Do not forget that when you purchase a sofa it is not money down the drain, because you can go onto sell it at a later date.
