Vintage Wrist Watches can add Pizzazz to an Outfit

By:Jessica Deets

Any woman who has an extensive wardrobe knows that one set of accessories is simply not enough. Different necklaces, rings and earrings are a must with different ensembles. But, what about wrist watches? Absolutely! For those who want to make a real statement, vintage wrist watches are a good choice to jazz up an outfit.

The style and look of vintage watches is different than many of those found today. And, unlike their modern relatives, these watches not only keep time well, they've survived the test of it.

For many watch wearers, the purchase of a watch is an afterthought with an outfit. The watch is hoped to work, but it's considered almost disposable. This is not the case with vintage watches. They are antiques. They represent the past. They have their own style. And, most importantly, their craftsmanship is such the piece has survived years, and in many cases, decades in a working condition.

Vintage wristwatches are considered, in most circles, those from the '60s and earlier. Their appearances are many, but what they hold in common is the fact they keep working. In many cases, these watches are in pristine condition and have been designed in such a way they will continue working for years and years to come if basic care and maintenance is performed.

Whether they're American made, Swiss time pieces or beyond, vintage watches for women come in an incredible variety. They can be as dressy as a woman wants, as "retro" or simplistic and sophisticated. Although many watches made today are modeled in appearance after those from the past there are visible differences between many modern timepieces and vintage examples.

The embellishments in the dressy ladies watches, for example, are more crisp and "authentic looking." The diamond patterns are often more elaborate and the handiwork as well. After all, the watches from the past came from time periods where items were meant to last a lifetime. Planned obsolescence was not in the vocabulary of old time watch makers.

Now, if you're wondering why adding some vintage watches to a wardrobe can add pizzazz, just take a look at the offerings available. Considering the styles and quality, these are investments not only in appearance, but financially as well. They are beautiful, well made and they won't let you down if you take proper care of them.

Vintage watches should be treated with a little more care than the "disposable" watches of today, however. They are not meant to undergo heavy labor or water. They should be treated like little wearable antiques and treasured as such. To maintain their appearance and their functionality, it is recommended they receive regular cleanings and check ups. From time to time, some of their parts may need to be replaced, but in general they will keep working and looking great as long as care is exercised.

Anyone can have a regular watch, but a vintage piece is a testament to history that adds a touch of style and class to any wardrobe. Coming in eye-catching and beautiful designs, these are the perfect accessories for many outfits. Plus, they are an antique investment that will grow in value over time.

Growing up, my siblings and I were never aloud to cry even just one tear. No matter how sad, mad or hurt we were, tears were never allowed. We were told that truly tough people didn't shed a tear no matter how bad life got. Tears, our parents said, were for wimps and people who weren't strong enough to handle life. As I grew into my teenage years, I found it nearly impossible to make it through week after week without crying a single tear. Since I knew my parents would not...
