Quick Tips To Boost Your Self Esteem
By:Kevin Sinclair
So you are on a bit of a downer and having one of those days where your self respect appears to be pulling you rapidly towards the ground. Maybe you messed up something in front of another person. Perhaps you did not perform as well as you wanted to on your test or flunked an important job interview. It could be that you simply got out of bed at the wrong side that morning. Everyone has days like this from time to time, when the world seems to be against you and a black cloud sits persistently overhead. Whatever your reasons for feeling like this, rather than mooching around in a state of self pity for the rest of the day make a decision to boost yourself up a little and get yourself feeling bouncy and alive.
Think about what physical activities you enjoy doing most. It could be swimming, yoga, aerobics, or some other form of work out. Exercise is a superb way to boost your self esteem. So when you are feeling down in the dumps take just fifteen minutes out of your day and perform the exercise of your choice. As well as raising your spirits by the release of endorphins into your system, you will also have decreased the chances of heart attacks, strokes, and many other nasty diseases.
If that alone is not sufficient to pick up your mood, just think about the physical effects created by exercise. Just a few minutes each day can trim you into shape and we all know that when we look good, we feel good too
Another way to lift yourself up is to have some laughter in your day. It doesn't matter if it is silly laughter either. A good hearty laugh right from the belly works wonders and it will not take long before you are feeling good again. Sign up for a few of the many websites which send a daily joke to your email account. It's free and there is something enlightening about receiving mail, even more so if it is a joke. Play your favorite music, have a sing and a dance, performing like you are the star you know you really are. The music will bring back great memories and is sure to put a lid on your glum feelings.
It does absolutely no harm to allow yourself a little luxury now and again too. Remind yourself of how important you are. Stop questioning yourself, as you do, when things are not going in your favor. So, be it chocolate or a simple pat on the back, lift your spirits and self respect by giving yourself a reward. On a positive note write down a list of all the personal goals you have obtained and take a look at this long list when you are feeling a bit flat. Things like being the first person in your family to graduate from college, or the first family member to buy your own house will make you realize just how well you have done with your achievements. Consider how many friends and family look up to you and are rooting for you to succeed in everything that you do.
As the old saying goes, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Learn from your own mistakes, acknowledging that you and you alone made the mistake, but learn how to forgive yourself too. Nagging at yourself about the errors you have made will only ruin your self esteem, so get rid of the guilt and move forward, putting all thoughts of mistakes down as part of the learning curve of life.
Find out to approve of yourself as a person by boosting your self esteem. If you allow things to continually get on top of you, you will only spiral further downwards. Keep your attitude optimistic, use your personality to change things into positive situations and your future is bound to be bright, cheerful and successful.
