Top 3 Reasons Why Birdie Balls are the Best Golf Practice Aids

By:Scott Carter

1. They provide accurate feedback on shot direction.

For golf practice to be effective, you have to know what your shot is going to do. If your swing is slightly outside-in, the resulting shot should should fade slightly. The more side spin your swing imparts, the greater the arc of the shot. Birdie balls provide excellent feedback on shot direction.

2. They have a feel that closely mimics a real golf ball.

For golf practice to be truly effective, it must feel as close as possible to actual course play. If you just go to a practice range and hit ball after ball, without any routine, your practice will not be effective in improving your on course play. For each practice shot you make, you should use the exact same pre-shot routine that you use on the course. When using practice golf balls, the more they feel like real golf balls, the greater the effectiveness of your practice. It is amazing how realistic Birdie Balls feel, considering they look nothing like a golf ball. All of the restricted flight golf balls that I have used in the past, felt like I was hitting nothing at all. With Birdie Balls, you have resistance at impact that feels remarkably like a real ball.

3. They can be used almost anywhere.

One of the things that prevents most golfers from practicing enough to really improve their game is the inconvenience of having to drive to a driving range or course to practice. This is where birdie balls really shine. The maximum distance birdie balls fly is approximately 40 yards, regardless of which club you hit. I usually grab about a dozen birdie balls and hit them from my front yard over the house into my back yard. With their strike pad, you can hit shots in the parking lot at work, from the street in front of your house, etc.

The perfect stroke is that elusive thing we all strive for, asleep in our beds at night with a smile on our faces as we dream of that drive going straight and true down the middle of the fairway or that putt dropping in to the cup at the end of its smooth 50 yard run. Unfortunately reality bites when we get to the tee and make our shot, those niggling.

We all have what I call an inner game thermostat. It governs your inner game temperature, so to speak. Your comfort zone is like a climate controlled room. If it gets too cool then it's time to heat up. If it gets too hot the air conditioner turns on to cool things down. Your inner thermostat does exactly what it is preprogrammed to do - bring your game back to *normal*! How? By producing what appears to be the "wrong swing at the wrong time".

Ball position is a critical component that’s often overlooked by players with high golf handicaps. Ball position decides a shot’s initial direction. While theories on ball position abound, you need to find one that’s right for you. Ball position affects a clubhead’s swing path, as I explain in my golf lessons. If the ball is too far back, the clubhead moves on an in-to-out swing path at impact, sending the ball to the target’s right.
