The Advantages Of Hiring A Menorca Villa
By:Derek Both
Many dream of a Mediterranean vacation. This does not have to remain a dream. Complicating factors come into play when families are large or otherwise require room. For those circumstances, renting a villa becomes attractive. That leaves the location. For this, there is much to say for Menorca.
The Balearic Islands of Spain are rich in history and climate, and Minorca is especially interesting. The island has a large collection of stone age megoliths, akin to Stonehenge. By 121BC, the Romans took the islands, which had been pirate bases. Taken by the Vandals in the 5th Century, it was taken from the Christians in an Islamic invasion in 903. It became an independent Muslim state in 1231, and was retaken by a Christian force in 1287. Heavily damaged in Turkish attacks in the 16th Century, and was taken by Britain in 1708. Minorca remained British until it was returned to Spain in 1802.
Modern Minorca has a population of around 80,000, creating a quiet, small town setting, allowing visitors to enjoy the scenery, climate and culture. The island has been designated by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve. Most locals are bilingual in Spanish and Catalan, but with a local accent including some English words. There are remaining British influences, such as a taste for gin. There are ancient cities and more modern ones, founded by the British or French. The capital of Minorca is notable for the natural harbor and this is the city for which mayonnaise is named. Those interested in architecture can find many lingering British influences on the local building styles.
Taking enough time to fully experience Minorca makes hotels less attractive. Hotel rooms are small and typically have few amenities, and over time, the costs are prohibitive. Villas are available to rent and provide the advantages of a full house. Kitchens and dining rooms allow meals to be prepared as is convenient for you, rather than the restaurants, private swimming pools without dealing with the crowds of public pools, the quiet of not having tourists on the other side of the wall, enough bathrooms to allow a whole family to get ready in the morning instead of a line for the one bathroom, washing machines and driers, parking and a much homier atmosphere than even the best hotels can provide.
Many Minorcan villas even have wireless internet access available, making it much easier to stay in touch with friends and families still at home.
Minorcan villas offer the opportunity to luxuriate in a home-like setting, stay in Minorca long enough to fully explore the island and on a budget that allows staying that longer time. This option is especially attractive for large families and parties that might otherwise be spread over the whole of a hotel, paying for many rooms and spread about to make coordination and fellowship much harder.

Day 1 – Lenin’s Revenge
Riding on a train for three plus days does weird things to your equilibrium. You tend to develop a natural compensation for the swaying. Unfortunately, your body doesn’t just snap back when you finally get on solid ground.

On December 24th, hundreds of artisans coming from Cusco and the surrounding towns lay their blankets on the sidewalks -a custom in traditional Andean fairs- and sell carved Nativity handicrafts.

- 10). Visit The Sand And Surf Of Watergate Bay By : Steven Cronin
The coastal road from Newquay snaked its way eastwards atop the high, craggy cliffs sculpted by the relentless Atlantic Ocean. Suddenly the road dipped and wound steeply towards sea level. Cars were parked everywhere; almost all had surfboards strapped to their roofs. This was Watergate Bay.
I turned into a car park and waited at the entrance. Just to my right a small, open camper van laid dormant.
