The largest city in Germany state of Hesse is Frankfurt am Main. It is situated on the Main river and Frankfurt is the financial and transportation centre of Germany. It is also the seat of the European Central Bank and the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. Frankfurt is unique for its skyscrapers, and it is one of only a few European cities to allow skyscrapers within the old central part of town

For a small city, Frankfurt has a fair share of sights the Main Tower skyscraper the Stadelsches Kunstinstitut museum are but many.

From the exclusive boutiques of Goethestrasse to the popular department stores on the Zeil and the upmarket shops on Schillerstrasses, Frankfurt has something for everyone. The shopping streets of the individual districts of Frankfurt are quieter, and this is where to go for junk shops selling odd items and curiosities. There is a flea market on the banks of the river Main every Saturday morning with all sorts of odds and ends, antiques and clothing.

Frankfurt is the destination par excellence for those in the market for high quality electronics or sports equipment. The same goes for big name European fashion and for the best in European wines, cheeses, sausage and bread.

Shopping hours in Germany have remained a long-fought battle, but recently the government approved Monday to Saturday shopping until 20 00. Everything is shut on Sundays, except for the souvenir shops at the Romerberg, and shops at the Hauptbahnhof and airport

Frankfurt is booming city and the nightlife is full. There are plenty of beer gardens and bars, and clubs to spend the hours of the night away. A new side to Frankfurt comes alive when the sun goes down. Just as during the day, Frankfurt has plenty to do during the evening hours. They have the clubs, bars, bistros, beer gardens, restaurants and movie theatres to keep you busy until sunrise. With enough students, ex pats, mid range spenders, business men and high spending hotshots heading out every evening, Frankfurts nightlife scene certainly is not dull.

The restaurants offer pretty much every ethnic taste as well as a variety of German style restaurants. If you are into the regional Wurst sausage and Bier specialities, venture out to one of the many Abbelwoi kneipes applewine taverns where you can feast upon interestingly sour homemade apple wine, vast arrays of meats and sausages, handkase cheese. Chances are that your restaurant will not have an English language menu.
