The Many Shapes Of Diamonds And The Difference Between Shape And Cut

By:Gregg Hall

If you were thinking that stones as in diamonds only came in 1 shape you were wrong. Most of all the major jewelers offer at least a few different shapes of stones. They will probably offer oval, round, pear, emerald, heart and many more.

Even though two diamonds of the same shape may look the same no two diamonds are ever going to be the same. Even if you had two identical rings with two identical stones they would not look the same when worn by two different people due to hand size and skin color. No diamond will ever be identical to another; one stone may have flaws that the other doesn't.

A lot of people mistake shapes as the cut of the diamond. The cut of the diamond only really looks at how good it was cut. How ever well the stone was cut is how well it will be priced. If the stone was cut with quality then it is going to be priced very highly if not then it will priced lower and not as high in value. When you talk about stones shapes you are actually talking about the geometric shape of the stone itself and not the cut.

Even though there are all kinds of different diamond shapes you will be able to choose one when you see the one you want. If you are looking at buying a diamond then you need to look at all the different shapes before you just choose any shape. You need to know what you need when it comes to buying a special stone.

After all when you're choosing a special stone for someone else it can be harder. As in engagement ring many normal women just want a round stone. Others may want a fancy shape and romantic women may just want a heart shaped diamond other than round. My wife preferred a square cut and it is quite beautiful.

Another thing to consider when one is seeking to buy a stone should be the shape and size of the woman's hand. If she has skinny long fingers and hands then she will look good wearing a round or pear shaped stone. You wouldn't want to buy a stone like that for women with stubby fingers and hand it will look too big on her little hands. You will just need to get something that will fit her and that she will like and remember you for.

Although there are many different types and shapes of stones there is only one original one and it's the round stone. These round stones are very traditional and are valued in most religious family's marriages. True, many families think any other stones other than the regular are of less value and shouldn't be worn. Others may think that they can wear anything they want and they can, that's why there are so many other shapes.
