Use Rawhide Country Lamp Shades For Western Decorating

By:Craig Chambers

The unique look of rawhide country lamp shades for home decor has been popular since the end of the great depression when women first began to look at their homes in ways other than utilitarian. This was the case with not only kitchens, but living rooms and later family rooms and dens also. What is now called southwest decor and western style, as well as ranch style, came about over time as the styles sprung from essential everyday items. The same occurred with country style homes. As the wealthier class began to have second homes called country homes, the working class began to use the same concepts in their interior design also.

As primitive style lighting such as oil lamps and lanterns were exchanged for the first rustic lamps, it was rawhide that was chosen to be used the material for lamp shades. Since then, it has been used for years to enhance western and southwestern style in home lighting and for lighting fixtures. If you enjoy the handcrafted work and style of times past, the natural looking style of rawhide will certainly be part of what you want to add to your country kitchen and rustic interior design. There are also other elements that will help you create the country style you see in designer magazines.

For a country kitchen, consider using wood. Primitive wood with rough edges and variations is desirable when trying to create country style. If you have a spacious room, dark colored woods work well whereas lighter tones look better in smaller areas. Rawhide country lamp shades look great combined with wooden accessories and look nice in any area where a floor lamp or rustic lamp would be placed. One fabulous thing about rawhide shades is that they come in light or dark as well as various colors to fit your distinct color scheme.

As you think about adding rawhide country lamp shades in your living area, along with other rustic decor and accessories, it may not be imperative to buy new lamps. Western style lamps are desirable but it is the leather lampshades that make the difference. It may be possible to use lamps you already have by just changing the shade to give it the same southwestern look. Whether you choose to keep the lamps you have or buy new ones, you will be amazed at the transformation that happens in your home.

There is no easier way to incorporate wonderful southwest style in your decorating than by decorating with rustic lamp shades. Incorporate some country style accessories like Indian pottery or Native rugs along with the shades, and you will develop a style that will have people talking about your beautiful home for a long time. You can find beautiful, decorative lamp shades in various colors and sizes in stores that sell southwest and rustic style decorating items, or buy them online. Produce a unique southwestern look and feel in your home, by adding the unique rustic beauty of rawhide country lamp shades.
