Find A Special Area And Keep It

By:Denton Krypps

Life is busy, hard, and demanding. Days are often filled with many people and a lot of responsibility. Normal life leaves little time or space for people to be alone and recharge. Very few people set aside part of their schedule or create a special area for themselves to get away, and it is so important that busy people learn to do just that.

One of the best ways to cope with the stresses of life is to get away from the stresses long enough to regain perspective. This can be done by creating a special area just for yourself. This area can be in your home, in your yard, or even in a small corner of your office. Wherever you choose for it to be, the important thing is that you set this area apart from the rest of your world. There are many ways to do this.

If you choose for your special getaway spot to be at home, try to designate a room or part of a room that you only use when you want alone time. You can warn your family that whenver you are in your special area you wish to be left alone. After spending some time alone, even if it is only fifteen minutes per day, you will be refreshed and better able to spend quality time with family, friends and co-workers. There is no better gift you can give people than to be relaxed and de-stressed when you are with them.

When you choose your hideaway spot, do what you can to make it your own. Make it special and unique by decorating it with things you love. Perhaps you can add a few candles in your favorite scents to light each time you want to relax, or maybe there are some favorite books that you need in your sacred area. Is there a certain color of paint that you love? Try painting your special area in that color. Get a cozy afghan or some throw pillows to make yourself comfortable. If music is something that unwinds you consider having a small cd player close by. If your favorite spot happens to be your yard, set aside a corner of the yard to be your special area. Get a great lawn chair or a hammock to relax in. Plants some of your favorite flowers or bushes to keep things colorful.

There are many ways to relax once you are alone and in your special area. If writing helps you unwind, buy a journal and spend a few minutes each day reflecting on how things are affecting you. If reading helps be sure to read at least a chapter of a great book each day. Some people enjoy knitting and can work on it a little bit each day while others enjoy doing crossword puzzles or other brainteasers to unwind. Know yourself. Learn what stresses you out and what relaxes you.

If you take the time to create a special area to get away, you will quickly find out how benefical it will be. You will begin by having to add this time into your schedule and in just a matter of time you will be unable to miss this important time in your special area each day.

In a recent poll, I asked readers if they thought English language teachers should be native speakers. The result was interesting, as the vote from those with an opinion was close with 48% believing they should be native speakers and 41% saying no. I don’t know what you think about this but I’ve always had mixed feelings. The first question I would raise with those who believe being a native speaker is an essential prerequisite for an English language teacher is, which nat...

Growing up, my siblings and I were never aloud to cry even just one tear. No matter how sad, mad or hurt we were, tears were never allowed. We were told that truly tough people didn't shed a tear no matter how bad life got. Tears, our parents said, were for wimps and people who weren't strong enough to handle life. As I grew into my teenage years, I found it nearly impossible to make it through week after week without crying a single tear. Since I knew my parents would not...

I have never given safety much of a thought on our family's beach vacations, but last year we heard a story about a shark attack that had ha...
