Discover The Secrets To Creating The Best Goldfish Pond Ever!
By:Dane Stanton
One of the most popular outdoor gardens features is the goldfish pond. Are you the kind of person who likes to keep goldfish outdoors in a pond? This article will discuss everything there is to know about having a goldfish pond including how to build one.
What Kind Of Fish Can You Keep In A Goldfish Pond?
There are many different types of fish that are pond worthy but none so much as the magnificent Koi. The koi is a large breed of goldfish that thrive in an outdoor environment. The Japanese were the first people to introduce the goldfish to the world and it is no wonder that the Koi is one of the longest living breeds of goldfish as they were often kept in large and small garden ponds at the homes of the Japanese people.
How do you build a goldfish pond outdoors?
The tools you will need are a shovel, pond liner and underlayment, a long enough rope, coping stones and decorations, plants, a pump (you will need a pump to run a filter, fountain, or waterfall and it will keep the water circulating and the plants healthy), a filter system and some cooperative friends or family members. All it takes now is a little time and elbow grease to get the job done. Don't worry it will all be worth it in the end!
What Food Is Best For Outdoor Goldfish?
Most goldfish ponds are self sustaining environments, however in the early stages it is advised that you feed your fish once a day until there is enough nutrients in the pond to feed your fish. Basically once you notice that your Koi or whatever type of goldfish you decide to have are getting too fat, that's a sign to stop feeding them or at least start feeding less regularly.
What Else Do I Have to Know About Having a Goldfish Pond?
There are many things that you must do regularly in order to keep your pond clean and free from disease. It is advised that you check the PH of your pond every 2 weeks. If you notice there is a usual high level of ammonia, then you are going to have to change the water. So make sure you have a built in drainage system before you start putting your fish in. Secondly make sure the water temperature doesn't exceed 75 degrees F. At this point your goldfish are at risk of catching more diseases than you can throw a stick at!
Basically all you have to do is monitor your pond as you would an aquarium and your goldfish are likely to live for many years in their sound prestige goldfish pond.
