The Lowdown On The Best Herbs For Erectile Dysfunction

In the fight against erectile dysfunction many have turned to alternative sources outside of conventional medicine. One such source is herbs and herbal medicine.
Herbal medicines are almost entirely free of side effects if they are properly used at the correct doses. The effectiveness of herbs will depend on the root cause of the person's erectile dysfunction.
A combination of herbs and good nutrition may be very effective in treating erectile dysfunction. Before you embark on taking herbal remedies it is important to see a doctor first.
The following herbs can be used for treating erectile dysfunction:
Yohimbine. This herb has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug administration for treating impotence. This herb is native to West Africa and works by increasing the flow to the penis.
Studies have shown that Yohimbine is effective in treating impotence for up to 43% of test subjects. Dosages of up to 42mg of Yohimbine per day have proven to be effective.
Shilajit. This herb widely found in India has been found to have several uses including treating erectile dysfunction. It improves sexual desire by working via the nervous system to and vascular system.
It improves blood circulation in the body. Dosages for this herb have not been established.
Horny Goat Weed. Here is an herb that has a similar effect to Viagra and has been a sexual tonic for thousands of years. This herb works to improve the ability of men to have an erection, good size and girth.
Its active ingredient is Icariin which is a similar PDE% inhibitor to that found in Viagra. Horny Goat Weed also works by increasing the hormone levels in the body when they are low which help to increase energy.
It also decreases cortisol levels when they are high and this improves the sex drive.
Garlic. Studies have shown that garlic helps to prevent and has a curative effect on many of the risk factors for erectile dysfunction. Things like heart disease and hypertension.
Mucuna Pruriens. This herb primarily works to increase the testosterone level in the body. It causes a reaction in the body which in turn increases the growth hormone levels, inhibiting prolactin.
Close to 70% of erection problems have been attributed to high levels of prolactin. This herb is also thought to increase sperm count in men.
Tribulus Terrestris. Considered a testosterone enhancer, Tribulus Terrestris has been touted as a tonic for the circulatory system and muscle building. This herb is said to improve libido for men with impotence.
Studies have shown it to improve many sexual dysfunctions including sexual desire, erectile dysfunction, and prolonged ejaculation.
Asian Ginseng. This has historically been used to treat male impotence. There is no research that supports this claim.
Ginko Biloba. Has the effect of increasing arterial blood flow and this is likely to cause an improvement is sexual functioning.
These herbs are just some of the herbs used for treating erectile dysfunction. It is important to do some research before taking any of these herbs.
