Generally, the ubiquitous ticket sales outlet sell out of tickets before you can ever even get through to them to purchase the tickets for the upcoming event you want to attend. This leaves you with two options for buying your hard to find tickets - eBay or a ticket seller.

If they are not professional about the sale, you can count on them not being professional if you have any problems with their service!
You also should consider the security of your information and the accuracy of the information you receive. Are the dates and events correct on their website? Do they take the time to answer your questions without giving you a "hard sell" the minute they get you on the phone?
If you are looking to purchase a large number of tickets for your business or personal needs, will the ticket seller give you references to be able to check them out prior to purchasing your tickets? If they will not give you references then you should look elsewhere for your tickets.
The last rule of thumb when looking to purchase tickets online is to see if the ticket seller is a member of the National Association of Ticket Brokers and the Better Business Bureau. If they are members in good standing of both organizations, you can be fairly certain they are a good business to deal with.
When you are looking for those hard to find tickets for the Chicago Cubs, Dallas Mavericks or the Kentucky Derby, look to a reputable ticket seller to buy your tickets. By following the simple rules above you can rest assured that your purchase is safe, your financial information is secure, and your tickets are legitimate.
