Cold Sores - Causes and Treatments
By:Todd Mumford
Millions of people in the US and in other parts of the world are affected by the herpes simplex virus that causes cold sores and other diseases as well. In fact, experts are of the opinion that the disease is so common that as many as 25% females are affected at least once in their lives. And in males, this is 20%. But the sad thing is, a huge section of that population believes that treatment for cold sores is not needed because the blisters tend to go away on their own. But the fact is, the blisters may return and cause more damage than just a scar on the skin. Thus, cold sore treatment is necessary.
There are a number of cold sore treatment options. But before going deeper into the subject, it is necessary to understand that a virus cannot be ever completely cured, and so, the virus that causes cold sores will stay within the body forever. Only the symptoms of cold sores can be eradicated with the proper treatment. So the sores will not hurt, burn or itch anymore.
While selecting a cold sore treatment option do keep in mind that there are a few medications that may lead to a diarrohea like condition. So it is probably advisable to go for a diarrohea medicine along with the cold sore treatment. There are basically 2 types of treatments for cold sores. They are topical applications and pills. Most medicines try to challenge the virus in the body that is causing the damage by lowering the virus replication rate. And when this happens, the natural immunity of the body is strengthened so that it is able to fight the virus on its own.
Here the role of immunity is very important, particularly when the virus returns, because there are actually a few triggers that make the virus active again. So if the natural immunity of the body can be strengthened the triggers can be deactivated and so the replication rate of the virus can be lowered. So the chance and the number of all future outbreaks can be lowered significantly.
Here are a few simple tips that can control the virus and remove the symptoms quicker:
- Experts feel that stress can worsen the situation. Though it is difficult to reduce stress levels in these difficult times, but try to do so anyway.
- Keeping away from cold winds and sunlight also improves the condition.
- When going out, always use a sunscreen. Carry it along in the beach vacations and in the camping trips because these are the times when there is prolonged exposure to sunlight.
- Changing the diet is always a good idea. Go for a diet that has a lot of vitamin A, C, E and also zinc and iron.
Now there are specially formulated treatments for cold sores and genital herpes that are 100% natural, and have been produced from the highest quality pure natural essential oils that are extracted from plants. Medical studies have proven the effectiveness of such cold sore treatments.
