Find Out What Television Is Right For You

By:Shaun Parker

The televisions market is one of the most competitive of all the audio visual markets. The continual technological developments render models obsolete within a year then you are back to square one facing baffling technology and grossly inflated prices. This article offers an impartial price and feature comparison of three of the latest models of televisions.

First up we have the LG 42LG6100 from Scarlet, which is a bit of a mouthful. It is best not to have your mouthful when you hear the price as you might choke, at 1200GBP RRP this is one expensive temptation. It has a wafer thin HD ready 42 inch screen with all the trimmings. It is sleek and stylish boasting four HDMI, excellent colour quality and TruSurroundXT audio. It seems to have a slight judder issue with Blue Ray disks however as it can be picked up for around 850GBP online it is a real temptation.

Next up the battle of the model names is the Toshiba 37XV505D televisions which comes in at reasonable RRP of 850GBP. This is HD on a budget and it does show in certain areas of picture quality as you can experience a small amount of picture noise in certain functions and there is occasional colour banding. There are deep black levels providing vivid colours and it has easy set-up and menu options however overall the picture difficulties are hard to ignore. It can be picked up for around 600GBP now so could be a good jumping off point for a first time HD users.

Next we have the latest from Philips Ambilight which wins the complicated model number competition with 37PFL9603D. It is a fantastic television judder-free Blue-ray pictures, four HDMI inputs and great sound quality that is bass heavy. It comes in at a whopping 1500GBP so you have to pay for the picture quality, the remote is a nightmare and there are problems with PC Networking functions but as far as televisions go this is the daddy. It is well worth the investment as it has a feel of a model that will stand the test of time.

Generally with televisions you get what you pay for and much of the consumer decision should be based on your budget and requirements. If you are looking for an all singing, all dancing model that can be hooked up to your PC then it is advisable to pay a bit extra to ensure quality however if you have basic requirements then you can save a large amount of money by purchasing a generation down online.
