Get the Right Doctor for Your Hair Replacement
By:Ian Koch
Hair loss is a traumatic experience for everyone, be it a man or a woman. None among us would like to see a bald person staring back at us in the mirror. As a result, many of us turn towards the many remedies available for hair replacement. These include hair restoration medications and treatments including hair transplants.
Without proper knowledge about the treatment the chances of getting badly treated by the hair transplant surgeon are very high. If not done properly, the transplant procedure can cause you not just physical pain but also mental grief much higher than the actual loss of your hair. Hence it is very necessary to find a suitable doctor to perform your hair replacement. A hair transplant is permanent, so you would want to make sure you pick the most qualified and artistic surgeon around.
There can be nothing more disheartening than having to live with a hair transplant that turns you into the laughing stock of your friends and family. Some of the most important criteria for selecting a hair transplant surgeon include:
Check the experience the surgeon has and whether he has performed such hair transplants in good numbers before. If the doctor or surgeon is a fresh one, better not go in for a consultation or session with him/her. Also make sure the surgeon is a full time hair transplantation specialist and not some part timer who is something of a jack of all medical trades but a master at none.
It is always good to talk and meet people/patients who have been treated by the surgeon earlier. There is nothing wrong in asking the surgeon for the names and contact numbers of a few of his former patients to check out how they feel about the doctor. Never place your belief in the surgeon just by looking at the pictures of success stories he/she has put up in his/her clinic. These can easily be manipulated.
Another important thing to check is the credentials of the surgeon. If you find even the slightest doubt in his/her credentials (the doctor should be at least an MD) check him/her out with the certifying board. Also, if the physician pushes you too much towards going in for a hair transplant procedure, he/she is just a salesman and not a true doctor. Never accept this kind of consultation.
A truly qualified surgeon would easily be able to diagnose and determine how much of hair loss you are likely to suffer in the future and accordingly advice the best hair transplant for you – one that would look natural even after several years. Remember there are limits to hair transplantation and the changes it can bring in your looks and only a qualified hair transplant expert can show you a realistic picture. If you keep in mind the above criteria, it would not be that tough to find the perfect surgeon who can give you the best possible hair replacement and transplant.

Near the follicle are the sebaceous glands that make the hair look vibrant and shiny. These sebaceous glands make the hair look oily or dry depending on the sebum production.
