Developing Perseverance

By:Stephen Campbell

Character development without getting a chance to develop perseverance is like an empty shell without a pearl. To develop perseverance one needs a strong willed character that enables individuals to achieve goals in life. In the existentialist world of today where each second costs a dime, it becomes necessary to face all the stress through coping strategies. To develop perseverance one needs guidance and experience in life so as to be successful academically and professionally.

In studies conducted on a section of successful people like business professionals, scientists and professionals excelling in their own field of interest it was found that these people had a strong sense of will that enabled them to go through all the hurdles of their lives in order to reach the goals that they had reached. The study was conducted on a longitudinal basis covering a span of entire life for many of the participants. The conclusion of the report revealed that to develop perseverance one needed a high level of motivation which only came through good advice and experience. There was a direct correlation between the motivation and the success of the participants which enabled them to achieve objectives. The study further revealed that these individuals were strong willed because they had a positive outlook towards life which enabled them to look at life head on. These individuals are born fighters and in order to develop perseverance they have had a positive upbringing from the side of their families.

As it can be seen from the study, determination and strong character remain the top factor to develop perseverance of an individual. Moreover perseverance is not just a personality dimension in individuals that is inherited by birth, but it is a developmental aspect of the overall well being of individuals. In the early years of development shyness or introversion may set in children due to strong inhibiting parenting which will affect the development of the self. The self is like a blossoming flower which seeks to rejuvenate the surroundings around it. With an inhibited character, to develop perseverance in an individual becomes a hindrance.

But there are various ways to come out of this inhibition to develop a person's character which include joining personality develop centers to develop perseverance. These centers foster a sense of strong will within the individual which includes playing games, psycho-drama, painting and many more activities. By the time individuals leave these centers, they are outspoken and have a better sense of determination to achieve their targets. In personality development sessions individuals gain a new aspect of their identity without which they would not be determined to accomplish their goals.

The significant factor to develop perseverance comes through maintaining a positive mind set of the mind. As it was illustrated in the study, successful people were found to have a high level of positive thinking which enabled them to sort out the path to their goals. Thus perseverance is not only reflected in body and spirit but the mind as well.

Self-confidence is another key to develop perseverance as it enables the personality to have a better sense of its goals and accomplish them on time. Another key to the self-confidence is that of self-realization and awareness which enables the individual strength in character thus enabling one to have a strong will.
Spirituality and meditation have also been great contributors to developing perseverance as it strengthens the faith in the individual and enables him to gain a sense of direction.

This sense of direction is crucial for the individual gaining an understanding of the capability that he has in order to achieve the goals. The mind has to be the main strength through which the mind of the individual should be strengthened in order to gain perseverance. Meditation is necessary to gain this sense of perseverance as it refreshes the mind and provides a sense of mental replenishment so that you can plan your objectives with better objectives.

Therefore to develop perseverance one needs to be able to set objectives and goals so as to gain a positive sense of development and enable a better opportunity to be successful in life. Perseverance is the basic ingredient to develop a healthy living which enables a positive lifestyle.

  • 5). Personal Development & Success - "Creating the Motivation You Need"  By : Jeffrey Miller
One of the most common beliefs that can prevent someone from achieving the success being sought is that "action only happens through motivation" - that, one must wait around for the so-called "feeling to move me" before anything will be accomplished. But, once we understand how we operate, once we discover the secret...

  • 6). Blast Through Barriers to your Goals  By : Kimberly Dawn Wells
One of the reasons we do not face our goals is because when we are faced with an unexpected barrier that we're unsure how to deal with, we shut down. We become discouraged, we start making excuses, and we allow ourselves to back off of our original plan. While this is a human and natural tendency, it's not conducive to success. An important step that you can take to avoid this barrier blunder is that of carefully planning your goal to include backup plans for all those little "what ifs.

  • 9). Focus On Your Goals Without Envying Others  By : John Watson
Many of us waste too much time envying others instead of getting on with our own goals and dreams. This is stupid to put it mildly. For a start, we would probably not envy others if we knew what their lives were really like. Many young men envied and still envy Evis Presley but who wants to die sad, disillusioned and divorced at the age of 42? Billy Connolly, the great Scottish comedian who now lives in California, tells an amusing story about misguided envy: In World War I two men were squatting side by side over the only toilet available.
