How To Take The Headache Out Of Choosing Marine Backed Indoor-Outdoor Carpeting

By:dror klar

If you think that the best type of floor covering for one of your projects is indoor-outdoor carpeting, you could be considering doing it yourself. The first thing about choosing indoor-outdoor carpeting is to make sure the grade you pick is the most appropriate for the floor space you are covering whether it is indoor or outdoors.

There are many grades to choose from. If your carpeting is going to be used outside and be constantly exposed to weather elements, then you will want a higher grade that will hold up well. Even if your flooring is going to be inside in a playroom, for example, you will still probably want something that will look good too.

If you are going to use the indoor-outdoor carpeting on a patio that is uncovered, then going with a grade of indoor-outdoor carpeting that has a marine backing. This type of backing is great for when the carpeting can be exposed to a lot of water.

If you live in an arid and dry climate like Arizona or New Mexico, you might think you would not need marine backing, but if you have a pool nearby or have plants that require watering, water can still be an issue. Marine backed indoor-outdoor carpeting is great if you want to cover an area like a cement pool surround that is not very attractive.

People use marine backed carpeting in their boats because it is better in areas that can be easily exposed to water and will help avoid slipping on a wet surface like a boat deck. A boat house is a good place to use marine backed carpeting too, in short, anywhere that there is likely to be water.

In a setting like a screened in porch, marine backed indoor-outdoor carpeting would not have to be used because it will be more protected. It will likely not be exposed to rain, but it can get a lot of traffic and it is a good idea to get a grade that will be sturdy enough to hold up well.

A covered patio or screened in porch is an outdoor gathering space for your friends and family, so you will want something that looks nice. There are grass types and more elegant plush types of indoor-outdoor carpet. Which kind you choose depends on how elegant or rustic your covered patio or screened porch will be decorated.
