Are Natural Dietary Supplements Safe? 3 Things You Need to Know
By:Ron Richardson
Natural dietary supplements come in, capsules, nutrient dense juice, sprays, creams, liquids and more. They can be: herbs, amino acids, essential fatty acids, extracts from fruits, vegetables and plants, vitamins and minerals, fiber and more. Natural supplements are things that your body produces naturally, and that makes them safe for almost everyone to take.
Here are 3 things you need to know when researching natural dietary supplements:
1) Consult a Naturopathic doctor. Talk to an expert in the field. If you talk to your medical doctor, you may be in for some disappointment. They are not trained, or do not research the natural alternatives. They are there to treat disease and sickness, not to prevent it. You go see a medical doctor when you're sick or something is broken.
You can usually get a free consultation with a naturopath, so why not talk to someone who can answer any questions you have, and not look at you like you have two heads.
2) Be sure to read ALL the ingredients on the label. While all claim to be natural, some are not. They may have non-natural ingredients such as chemical preservatives. Some claim to give you the daily amounts, but they may fall short on what you actually need. Just because you get a 100, 1000 or 2000mgs of the supplement, doesn't mean that your body can ingest, and more importantly, process it. If your body can process 100mg per day, and the product claims to have 1000mgs in each dose, it doesn't matter. The body will process what it needs, and the rest would be waste.
Don't through your money away on products that claim to be the silver bullet, there is no such thing. Moderation and variety are the keys to finding a successful natural supplement.
3) Ask people you know and trust what is working for them. Part of your research should be questioning people that are using natural supplements already. People in the health and wellness industry are great resources. They are already convinced of the powers of natural supplements, so that's one hurdle you don't have to jump.
Don't discount a product just because it comes from a network marketing, or direct selling company. On the other hand, don't automatically assume that just because the company promoting the supplements is a huge, well known, multi million dollar corporation, that there product must certainly work.
People will always gladly tell you what is working for them, and also be more eagerly to share what didn't work for them. Just like when you have a good or a bad meal at a restaurant, you will always spread you comments to anyone that will listen.
Remember to do your research, consult a professional in the field, and ask a lot of questions to those who have had the successes, as well as the failures, with natural dietary supplements. If you do these 3 things, you can find all the answers, and start living a healthier, happier life. Be proactive and your body and mind will reward you for it.
