Traffic Gets Businesswoman In A Jam

By:Johnny Jenkins

Jade was a 28 year old rising business star in her company. She worked for one of the largest banks in the Northeast. Her office building was located right in the heart of the downtown area.

She hated the traffic, but most of the time she could get around without many problems. When different events came to town, the traffic was really congested. On those days she took a taxi to and from work. Jade wanted to avoid the hassle of driving in the thick traffic full of short tempered drivers.

Today there was a major ceremony planned to honor some top level government officials. She knew the traffic would be crazy, so she decided to take a taxi for the day. Jade had become a good customer to the Cab Company. She also knew most of the drivers.

On this day the Taxi Company was experiencing a shortage of drivers because of all the visitors in the city. They hired some temporary people to fill the demand. Jade got one of the temporary drivers.

When she approached the cab he said, the manager apologizes that your regular driver could not come. Everything seemed all right. When the driver called the manager by name she felt safe. She got into the cab and they were on their way.

Immediately, Jade noticed he did not take the same route as the regular driver. She asked why? The driver said, the route he was taking would by pass all the celebration traffic. She thought that was a little strange. Jade also did not recognize any landmarks on that route.

The driver drove on. Jade was becoming nervous. She decided to call someone at work to let them know what was going on. She whipped out her cell phone but the battery was dead. She had forgotten to recharge it the following night. She started asking the driver all kinds of questions but he did not answer.
He just stared forward and kept driving. Finally he told her to shut up. At that moment she heard the electronic locks on the cab click. Panic set in. Her heart was pounding. She knew she was in trouble. She tried, but she could not open the doors. Jade knew her life was in danger.

She knew her only chance was to cause a scene by making this guy crash the car. She took the strap off her purse and quickly slipped it over the drivers head. He was choking. She held on for dear life. In an desperate attempt to breath he lost control of the car and crashed into a light post.

Traffic stopped and a crowd came to assist. They pulled Jade and the driver out of the car. The driver was unconscious. The police arrived and began to question Jade. She told them what happened.

They pulled a wallet from the drivers pocket while the emergency workers treated him. From his license they were able to determine that he was a convicted sex offender. They told Jade how lucky she was.

Jade was scratched up and suffered a broken arm, but was able to return to work in few weeks. She always remembers that incident and makes safety her number one priority at home and work. She knows that the incident could have had a much different ending. She took quick action to defend her self. It probably saved her life.

You may have to take drastic actions to defend yourself in a crisis. You may have to risk being injured to save your life or that of loved ones. It is good to have something that can cause a distraction long enough to allow you time to escape. While it is not possible to predict exactly what will happen. It is possible to take some preparation.
