If you are familiar with the online dating industry you will know that it has changed significantly since it's introduction. There are more free online dating services today than ever before. Since the introduction of the free services many people started questioning whether the free services were as effective as the paid services.

I will disclose some of the myths of the free online dating industry that you should be wary of.

1. Many critics of the industry have stated that the paid dating services will be going out of business because the free services have been growing rapidly over the past few years. Critics have stated that consumers will not pay for something they can attain for free.

Based on my own experience I can say that the quality of members on a paid service is better than that of the free services. There are many paid services which offer unique features to their members, many of the paid services tend to have more overall features than the free services.

2. Some critics insist that the quality of members on both types of services are exactly the same. This is false because there are many paid services who will do a background check on their new members before giving them access to the site. This creates a much safer environment for everyone involved.

While the free dating services do not do background checks, they allow absolutely anyone to join their site.

3. There are just as many people sending spam on both types of services. This is false as well, spam is a big problem in the online dating industry today. Spammers create multiple accounts on the free services and they send spam to other members. The administrator of the service may delete the account of anyone who is guilty of sending spam. However, doing this is not going to solving the problem because the service is free so the person will create other accounts and continue to send spam.

While the paid dating services will only allow their paying members the ability to contact other members. So members who send spam on a paid service will also get their profile deleted. However they will have to pay again after they have created a new profile before they can contact other members. This is ultimately what deters most members on a paid dating service from sending spam.

Everything has it's pros and cons even free online dating, just because it's free doesn't mean it's a good substitute for the paid dating services.
