Astrology - A Powerful Yet Controversial Tool to Diagnose Disease
By:Abhishek Lodha
Nicholas Culpepper, who lived in the 17th century, was a great doctor, botanist and herbalist. He was so convinced of the utility of astrology in its application to medicine that he went so far as to say that only astrologers are fit to study medicine. Not only so, he also told that a medical man without astrology is like a lamp without oil.
The sayings of these and other great men should nearly convince us that the study of astrology will prove invaluable to the doctor and the layman, who are always eager to know the nature of disease to which they are prone to and the necessary steps that may be taken to avoid them.
For a proper diagnosis, it is need less to emphasize, accurate and impeachable birth data is an essential factor. For instance, in the case of a number of births within a short span of a few minutes, what really distinguish a child from another are the lagna and other houses.
In astrological parlance, the faculty of speaking comes under the domain of the second house. In the human body parts assigned to the second house are the tongue, mouth and organs of speech. Among the planets, Mercury governs the vocal cords, tongue, mouth etc and the Venus controls the throat and the larynx, though the air passing through the larynx is under Mercury's rule.
It is also believed that if the owner of the second house is well placed by occupying a favorable sign or beneficially aspected, the native is bound to have eloquence or some vocal gift. According to Sepharial, Mercury in a watery sign afflicted by Saturn causes stammering. Again Carter opines that the 12th house would be usually prominently occupied and there would be serious afflictions to Mercury from malefic. Also, the planet of congenial defects and deformities, Saturn would be prominent any of the bestial signs namely, Mesha, Rishaba, Simha or Makara.
A girl child was born at 4.38am on 10th October 1960, in a place situated 30miles west of Madras.
On a general survey of her birth chart, it was found that the second house is tenanted by its owner Venus along with Mercury. Venus and Mercury are not spoiled by conjunction of any of the natural malefics. Nor are they malifically affected. Saturn is neither in a bestial sign nor in a watery sign. There is no malefic aspect from Saturn to Mercury and Venus. In the face of all these indications, can one have any shadow of doubt regarding the girl's speaking power? Yes, and the truth however, is that the girl's speaking power is very defective and she is almost dumb.
The sixth house is related to sickness, suffering and ill-health, the positive side of the health being governed by the lagna.
The eighth house is the house of impediments, danger and mental pain and, in a sense, bears significance to ill-health and accidents.
The twelfth house is familiar to us as the house of confinement, seclusion and sorrow. It embraces hospitals, sanatoria and similar institutions. This house also stands for environmental changes, such as moving to hospitals and nursing homes.
In all matters connected with disease, body infirmity or accidents, planetary positions and their malefic effects have an important role to play.
