3 Psychological Factors of Healthy Living Success

By:Yuki Shoji

At the conclusion of this story you will have learned that if you want to be successful at living a healthy lifestyle you have to change your mindset to one that will enable you to do so. The first thing you need to change as you begin is to stop thinking of your lifestyle change as a diet. The term diet carries with it a negative connotation and implies that you're giving up something that you enjoy, i.e. food.

Instead of using the term diet, consider what you're doing is a lifestyle change. Consider that you're are changing to a healthier lifestyle, one that will make you feel better about yourself, look better and help ensure that you live a long and happy disease free life. But more than this you need to understand the many psychological reasons for why people do diet, as well as your own. By understanding why people diet, you will be better able to understand why you do, and thus, improve your chances of being successful.

Here's what you should know.

Nearly one-third of people in the United States are considered to be overweight, yet twice that number actually believes that they are. Advertising and Hollywood are partially to blame for this. However, society is also responsible because of its widespread hatred of fatness that usually begins to develop in young children, and is the cause of many psychological problems for overweight children when they reach adulthood.

Psychological Factor of Healthy Living Success #1 Know who is Dieting

Unfortunately, young people as old as eight are dieting today, a very scary statistic. It should also be noted that 50% of people who are dieting right now actually don't need to be on one.

Psychological Factor of Healthy Living Success #2 The Dieting Industry

Do not believe anything the diet industry claims in their infomercials. Many of their methods are quack attempts to prey upon those who are desperate and looking for a way to live a healthier life so that they can feel good about themselves. Unfortunately, billions of these individuals' dollars go to this industry each year and most of them end up wishing they had their money back soon after.

Psychological Factor of Healthy Living Success #3 Understanding Success

What lifestyle changes would make you feel successful? Don't let others tell you what you should consider successful because oftentimes they have set very unrealistic goals for you. Not everyone is built to fit in the same size pants. You need to look inside yourself to find out how much weight you need to lose in order to feel as if you're a success.

By understanding many of the psychological factors that lead most people to live healthier you will better ensure your own lifestyle change and success. Remember, it is not a diet, but a change of lifestyle you're undertaking. Make sure you understand exactly why you want to make this change before doing so. Remember this list of above, and a healthy lifestyle will be within your grasp.
