Using MySpace Safety - Setting Your Profile to Private

MySpace.com has quickly become a popular way to communicate with other members, as well as meet new friends and locate old ones. If you follow these tips, that does not guarantee your online safety, it only decreases your risks.

Another way to ensure your online safety while using MySpace is by setting your entire profile to private. This means that only the people you have approved as friends will be able to view your MySpace profile. Anyone who is 15 or under will receive a MySpace profile that is already set to private. Anyone under 14 is allowed to have a MySpace account per terms of service. For MySpace members over 15 years of age, there are a few simple steps you need to follow in order to set your profile to private.

First, you must make sure you are logged into your MySpace account. Once you log in, and are directed to your home page, you need to click the link labeled "Account Settings", located to the left of your MySpace photo. This will redirect you to your account settings page, where you will need to find the where it says "privacy settings" and click the red link next to it labeled "change settings". By clicking this link you will now be on the page where you will actually set your profile to private. At the very bottom of your settings box, where it says "Who can view my full profile", you will need to select "my friends only". Click the "change settings" button, and your profile will be private.
