Why Everyone Is Talking About Network Cables
By:Shaun Parker
Finding the right equipment for your data centre can be very difficult. It is a daunting task for the uninitiated. There are so many options and all of these options are confusing to the uninitiated. Fortunately the majority of choices are made by people that know what they are talking about and know what they want. However many people might be looking to stock their data centre without the extensive knowledge required to permeate the wide number of options.
Whilst many people with a data centre will have a member of staff dedicated to managing their networking this is not always the case. So if like me you are a bit confused about what is involved in a data centre then read on. This article aims to help cut through the jargon and attempt to understand the phrases that are often banded around in the industry. This should help you develop a knowledge that will help you make an informed decision when you are looking to purchase network cables and the accessories that are associated with them.
Network accessories
There are a wide variety of network accessories available to supplement your network cables. Splitters, tools, connectors, cabling kits, rj45 adapters, trunking and floor boxes are accessories that will help enhance the performance of your networking system. A splitter is the item that splits your cable so that it can avoid interference. Tools such as a crimp tool, punch down tool and stripping and cutting tools will help you manage your cables. So if you are laying cable for a long time you can make the process more manageable and much more enjoyable. The benefits of well laid cable are multiple. It can make manourvering around your data centre far more comfortable. Well laid cable can help ease the mind of the people that lay cable. The efficiency of the data centre will increase if the cable is laid effectively. It can be extremely satisfying to lay cable.
Cabling kits are designed to help people lay cable. They consist of pre prepared patch cabinets that are designed to make laying cable simple and effective. The typically come with a choice of 24 port cat5e Patch panel and a choice of eight or twenty four port 10/100 fast Ethernet switches. Trunking can be utilised to make laying cable a little less messy. These plastic boxes are used to hide the cable so that it looks less unsightly in your home or workplace. These plastic boxes are cheap and are a great way of making your data transfer more appealing.
Other essentials that are required for laying cable effectively are items such as cable ties and installation tape. These items will help you manage your cable so that it achieves the aim that you have set for it as well as looking aesthetically pleasing.
