Getting Started With Bodybuilding - Goal Setting
By:Craig Rad
If you are just getting started with bodybuilding then there is certainly a lot to consider. For most people the first step should always be to set your goals so you then have something to work towards. For many of us those goals may be very hard to reach, so we recommend setting long term, short term and long term goals.
Here are some examples of short term, medium term and long term goals...
Short Term
I want to change my diet and try to tone my muscles more so that I have a better body from which to progress further with my bodybuilding plan. Once you have set a goal like this you also have to consider how you long you will give yourself to achieve it. An example may be 1 month or 2 months. Whatever you do, be realistic then you will not be disappointed and you will really aim to achieve your goals.
Medium Term
I want to be able to lift twice what I do at the moment and be able to do 150% times the amount of reps. Well this is certainly an ambitious plan, so you must consider the limitations that surround it and set a time in which you feel you will be able to do it. For something like this you may want to chose 3 months and get started straight away.
Long Term
I want to have a healthy diet, I want to be strong, fit and live longer through being healthier. I want a motivation through which to keep me in shape and keep me on track. Now a goal like this is great to aim for in the long term as it means your goal will never end. Another great example of a good goal is to aim to increase the amount of reps you can do by a given amount each monthly period. That way you are always motivated an always on the path to success.
Ensuring that you are always fit and in shape is certainly no easy task for anyone, that is why you need to be committed, but you also have to be more than that. You must enjoy what you do or else you will never succeed. Many people find that they find it hard to motivate themselves and even dread going down the gym. If you are in that position and just want to do bodybuilding for your appearance than you are in the wrong game, bodybuilding is about self control and reaching a level of discipline that few can match.
If you are interested in getting started with bodybuilding then set goals and aim high. You will most likely get there is you manage to stay focused. If you have a healthy diet and work hard, then you can be sure to experience success as a result. If you go down to your local gym and get started then most people get addicted from the outset, the trick is to stay focused and you will succeed.
