Playing the Florida Lotto

By:Anthony Wayne

Florida Lotto gives you millions of reasons to play - twice a week! With only $1, you can play for the base jackpot. For only $1 more, you can play for the base jackpot plus an additional $10 million; and, for $3, you can play for the base jackpot plus an additional $25 million! It's up to you to decide which way you want to play. Playing Florida Lotto is easy. You simply choose six numbers between 1 and 53.

How To Win Florida Lotto

If you correctly match the six winning numbers drawn in the official drawing for the date played, you win the Florida Lotto jackpot! If you match five, four, or even three of the winning numbers, you win a cash prize! If there are multiple winners, each jackpot - the base jackpot, the $2 jackpot prize pool and the $3 jackpot prize pool - will be shared among winners who are eligible for each specific prize pool.

How Do I Know If I've Won

Florida Lotto drawings are held every Wednesday and Saturday nights at 11 p.m., ET. Tickets may be purchased until 10:40 p.m., ET, on the night of the drawing. Tickets purchased after 10:40 p.m. will be for the next drawing. If you win the jackpot, you may choose to receive your portion of the Florida Lotto jackpot in a one-time Cash Option payment or in 30 annual payments. And don't forget, if you win: You must claim your prize within 180 days of winning.

Where Does the Money Go?

The Florida Lottery supports public education in Florida. When you play the lottery, you are not only having fun, but helping a good cause. More than 5 times in its history, the Florida Lottery has surpassed the billion-dollar mark in a single year. By the end of 2007, the Florida lottery has totaled more than $18 billion in proceeds for education. The impact of the Florida Lottery on public education flows from community to community. Remember, when you play the Florida lottery, we all Win!

Buy Florida Lotto Tickets

If you want to buy these or any other lottery tickets, simply log onto your official state website. These sites explain how to purchase tickets, and often times tickets can be purchased online so you can play most state lotteries from the comfort of your own home. You can also refer to official state websites for custom lottery news. Many sites offer lottery number generators to help make your lottery number picking easier for you. If you would like to purchase your tickets in person, you can also visit a local lottery terminal. No matter how you choose to purchase your tickets, or which tickets you choose to buy, you're bound to have some fun!
