Self Improvement - A Great Goal To Pursue!

By:Abhishek Agarwal

It should be the goal of every human being to constantly seek self improvement. Many a time we see a person's self improvement efforts go right down the drain at the first sight of a problem in life. Any thing that you undertake requires for a process to be in place to make it happen better the self improvement desires are no exception to the role. Processes could be categorized into negative and positive.

As far as self improvement goes, any process that reduces the effort is a negative one and one that encourages it would be positive. We need to ensure that we maximize positive processes and minimize negatives to achieve our goals of self improvement.

Exercises which are designed to increase a persons self improvement goals are examples of positive processes. They give direction to the entire process of self improvement, increasing the person's feel-good emotion as they are put into place. A practical exercise is always great to remind us that the idea of self improvement is not a pie in the sky dream, but a reality that one can work towards.

One of the basic exercises that help your self improvement process is to verbally speak to the self. Studies have shown that when a person verbalizes an idea he or she will do their best to live up to it. Thoughts are not the same as words. Thinking you would do something is one thing, while saying you would do it is quite another! So, tell yourself verbally whatever it is that you desire to improve about the self.

Practice is a definite plus point. When you want to achieve something in life, you need to seek for it diligently. Consider a guitarist mastering a song. It is only when he plays it over and over a hundred times that he has mastered it. So, pick your process, and practice it every day.

Positive feedback is another great exercise that helps you on your self improvement path. Make a note of every positive change you see in yourself, even if they are seemingly insignificant. Positive feedback, as any psychologist would confirm, ensures you will stick to your goals. The feeling of reward is a basic necessity for the human mind, and when you reward yourself by noting the improvements you've made, it only encourages the self to stick to whatever self improvement goals you have set.

One could make a lengthy list of self improvement tips, but the above mentioned ideas are the root exercises which could be modified to suit one's personal targets. The basic idea is that the exercise encourages one to stick to their goal in spite of trouble along the way.
