Considerations for Selecting the Perfect Refrigerator
By:Amy Nutt
One of the most visible and most necessary household appliances is the refrigerator. It is said that the kitchen is the heart of every home. If that is true, the refrigerator is certainly the heart of the kitchen. When a guest enters your kitchen, the refrigerator is often the first thing her or she notices. When a family member enters the kitchen, a visit to the refrigerator is often the reason for the trip to the kitchen. When selecting a refrigerator, there are a number of factors to consider.
Energy Efficiency
In the modern world, certainly energy efficiency is a major concern when selecting any household appliance. By selecting energy efficient appliances, you can save money on your electric bill in an environmentally responsible manner. Look for the Energy Star label on display models so that you can be sure that you are selecting a refrigerator that demonstrates maximum energy efficiency.
Model
There are several refrigerator models from which to choose. Traditionally, the best refrigerator model has been the type of unit that has a freezer on top of the refrigerator. However, many people prefer the side-by-side refrigerator model. This type of refrigerator is split vertically with the refrigerator on the right and the freezer compartment on the left. In recent years, refrigerator models with the freezer compartment mounted below the refrigerator compartment have also been increasing in popularity.
To select the best type of your refrigerator for your home, it is important to consider your needs and how you will use the refrigerator. For example, a family with toddlers might find a freezer-on-bottom type to be a hazard. Families who encourage their older children to become self sufficient when it comes to snacking might be best served by a side-by-side unit, so that the children have easy access to both refrigerated and frozen food items.
Style
Since refrigerators are so large and often become the focal point of the kitchen, it is important to choose an attractive refrigerator style that will coordinate well with the decor of your room. Refrigerators are available in a number of different colors and materials, and it shouldn't be difficult to find the perfect style for your kitchen.
The standard colors for refrigerators are white and almond, although black refrigerators have been growing in popularity in recent years. Additionally, many manufacturers also make models in a variety colors to coordinate with specific kitchen decor themes.
For kitchens decorated in a contemporary style, it's hard to beat a beautiful stainless steel finish for the refrigerator. This sleek style is the perfect complement to any modern kitchen design. Stainless steel finishes also work with traditional kitchen decor in many settings.
Making the Decision
Make sure to put some thought into the process of selecting a refrigerator. This appliance will probably be with you for several years, so you want to choose one that meets your needs and that fits in well with the overall design of your kitchen.
