A Look At The Final Fantasy XI Job The Thief

By:Hunter Crowell

The best money making job in the game of Final Fantasy XI is the thief. They can get monsters to drop more gil and better items and more importantly they could steal items from them. They can also attack numerous times later on with the Triple Attack skill.

The Thief is the 'shady' indirect combat job (class) in the world of Vana d'iel. An indirect combat job is a job whose primary purpose is to support other jobs in combat. Thieves have many sneaky skills necessary for survival - instead of fighting their enemies from the front, they prefer to stab them in the back, use their quickness to evade attacks and steal items and gil (money) from them.

Every race would do well in the thief job but the Mithra are noteworthy for their 10 dex. Another good choice would be the Galka for their nice HP.

The active abilities of the Thief are Perfect Dodge which you automatically acquire at level 1, this allows you to evade all physical attacks although its recharge time is 2 hours so use it only when most needed. Next up is Steal which the Thief acquires at level 5 and allows it to try and steal and item from the enemy. At level 15 the Thief gets Sneak Attack which allows it to perform a strong first attack on a monster though the ability must be used before combat starts. The Flee skill comes at level 25 and allows the player to run twice as fast as normal for the perfect get away. Trick Attack is the ability at level 30 which does strong damage. At level 35, the Thief gets the Mug ability which allows it to steal gil from its enemies. Once the Thief reaches level 45, he can use the Hide ability which makes him invisible to enemies.

The passive abilities of the Thief job are as follows: Gilfinder at level 5, lets monsters drop more gil in battle. Evasion Bonus at levels 10, 30, and 50 increasing the evasion ability of the Thief. Treasure Hunter ability at levels 15 and 45 which increases the drop rate of monsters. Resist Gravity at levels 20 and 40 which give better gravity resistance. Last is the Triple Attack ability at level 55 which gives the Thief a chance of striking the enemy three times with one attack.

Thieves are very welcome at parties for several reasons; one of this is because thieves can sense enemies from far away. And enemies tend to drop more money and items (about 10% increase) when a mid-level thief is around. At 15th level, Thieves gain the ability to sneak attack, doing heavy amounts of damage to the rear of a monster who is not looking at (noticing) you. These abilities (in addition to their ability to sprint away from danger) make the Thief an ideal candidate for scouting or finding monsters for the party to kill.

Bookworm is a very good alternative to some of the violent action games popular today. The goal is simple: spell words by linking letters found on the board. When you form a valid word, it will disappear and the letters above will go down. There are never empty spaces as new letters fill up the gaps on top of the board. The longer the word you form, the higher the score and the better off you will be.
