Tips to Hire Your Wedding Cake Designer
By:Jerry Leung
You will certainly have your own dreamed wedding. You will also have a dreamed wedding cake. There are a lot of different bakers who can take the job to make the cake for you. However, it is not that easy to find a really good and suitable one. You can consider the following issues when you are choosing your cake designer.
Preparation before you meet the designer
You need to prepare a few things before you meet the potential cake designer. First of all you will need to set a realistic budget. There is no point to set a budget which is too low to be true.
Besides, you will probably do your research on the web or bridal magazines. You should put all the pictures and images of wedding cake you like in a folder so that you can discuss it with the designer.
If you would like to make your wedding cake match the color theme of your wedding, you can also prepare swatches of the colors of your wedding so that the cake designer can understand your wedding more.
When you are meeting the designer
When you are meeting the designer, the most important thing is that you need to evaluate if he or she can do what you want. Without any surprise, you will ask for the portfolio of the designer. This is certainly the most important thing you need to ask in order to see if the designer suit you or not.
If possible, you can see if there are some samples of the cake when you meet a designer. You can taste it to see the actual cake. You have to bear in mind that no matter how beautiful a wedding cake looks, it is not a good one if it tastes badly. You may also ask if you can bring some samples back home so that your family can also give you suggestions.
Moreover, you should ask the lead time for the making of the cake. This is very important since you will need to know what is the deadline you need to order the cake. If you would like to use fresh flowers to decorate your cake, you need to ask if the designer will work with your florist to do it. If not, you may need to do that yourself or you have to ask your florist to do it.
You will also need to consider the delivery of the cake. You will ask if the designer will deliver the cake to your wedding reception venue. How much extra will be charged if you need him or her to deliver the cake to the place your request. When the cake is delivered, whether it will be just dropped down or your designer will set it up on the table is also a crucial question to ask.
After you have met the designer
You will certainly meet a few different wedding cake designers before you make the final decision. From the portfolios of them, you can have a brief idea on how creative they are. Besides creativity, you may also consider the personality of the designer. This is important because you will need to meet him or her at least a few times before your cake is delivered. You will certainly choose the one you feel more comfortable with.
