Panwa - An Idyllic Destination in Phuket

By:Wolfgang Jaegel

A visit to Phuket would be incomplete without taking a tour to Panwa and its beach. Panwa, also known as Khao Khat, is a quiet as well as tranquil resort area, tucked away in a calm corner of south-east Phuket.

Located about seven kilometers east of Phuket town, Panwa covers the west coast of Cape Panwa, and is a great spot for tourists seeking peace and for those who want to be away from the hustles and bustles of the city.

This area is only minutes' drive away from Phuket city, and you can easily reach via the Sakdidej road that leads to the Route 4023. It would be a quiet drive, and while your way to Panwa, you could enjoy some mind blowing sea views. With dramatic scenery, gorgeous white sandy beach, swaying palm trees, beautiful rubber plantations, and breathtaking sea views, Panwa is in deed a place to visit.

Most popular among the attractions in the destination is:

Phuket Aquarium : Managed by the Marine Biological Center, the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Phuket Aquarium is a great spot for those who want to procure knowledge on the diversity of fish species, fresh water plants, and coastal life. The aquarium consists of two sections, of which one features fresh water plants and the other fish and marine creatures.

One can find more than 50 species of fresh water plants and fish such as electric eel can be found displayed in 10 tanks of 5-10 liters, 4 tanks of 3-8 cubic meters. Included in the marine life section is some rare as well as beautiful species of fishes that have been collected from across the world, such as bluefin trevally, grouper, Napoleon wrasse, snapper, banner fish, and much more. A visit to this interesting spot is also a great way to gain interesting news and information on marine life.

Phuket Zoo : Sprawling over an area of about ten hectares, Phuket Zoo boasts of a large collection of animals, with about 50 species of mammals, 100 species of reptiles, and more than 500 species of birds. Tigers, camels, emus, and ostriches are some of the specialties in the zoo. Among the highlights of the zoo is three distinct shows including Elephant Show, Monkey Show, and Crocodile Show.

During elephant show, you can see elephants doing such performances as hitting the ball to score a goal, walking over four people carefully, and much more. Monkey show is also quite interesting, where you can see monkeys playing football and lifting weights. When comes to crocodile show, it is quite unusual, and you can see a man catching crocodile bare hands, kissing it, and putting his head on the mouth of crocodile.

Apart from these, the zoo also includes a large orchid garden with thousands of orchids of different colors and species such as Bulbophyllums, Cirrhopetalums, Grammatophyllum speciosum, Rhynchostylis, and slipper orchids.

Panwa House : Once used by a fishing family, Panwa House stands a fine example of incredible Sino-Portuguese architecture.

Other not to miss attractions in the area are Nakkared Hill, providing magnificent views of the surroundings and the Andaman Sea; Phuket Yacht club, where a variety of family-oriented activities are organized; Wat Chalong Temple, most popular as well as revered of all temples in Phuket; Central Festival Shopping Complex; and Phuket Country Club. Apart from these, tourists visiting this place can engage in a number of activities from water sport activities to shopping and sumptuous dining.

In short, Panwa is a tropical paradise, providing visitors with a variety of options to see and do. Perhaps for these reasons, Panwa is visited by people from across the world. Hence, the destination is dotted with a number of accommodation choices to suit all types of visitors.

Many of the hotels and resorts in the area provide tourists with a range of options to choose from, such as, deluxe suits, family suites, guest rooms, villas, and penthouse condominium units. Whether it is of any type, an accommodation is mostly replete with comforts such as spacious private terrace, king size beds, and bath with bathtub and separate shower.

Further, majority of resorts render facilities such as swimming pool, games room, state of the art fitness centers, and excellent spa facilities. Above all, since most of the hotels have their own websites, it allows a tourist to choose an accommodation option that suits his needs and make bookings online.

Our Pauper loves to save money using an airfare consolidator. These consolidators contract with airlines to get tickets at cheaper rates than the general public. Because they buy large blocks of tickets the airlines love them. Though you can get really good deals by knowing how to use consolidators, remember they are not structured for great service.
