Communicating Collection Calls with Confidence
By:Tristan Andrews
Confidence is an integral component in any aspect of running a business. And making collection calls is no exception to the rule. This simple task can definitely be made more efficient and effective when given the right dose of confidence.
So, how does the lack of confidence reflect in making those collection calls?
First, it will manifest itself in your manner of speaking; specifically on how your voice sounds. A clear, audible and well-modulated tone of voice on the phone will indicate confidence. Consequently, it will also set the mood of the conversation. A dull, monotone and flat tone will not get the other person's attention. In fact, if the call becomes too boring, you just might send the person on the other line off to sleep! Remember, start with a warm and happy initial greeting then proceed with the call in a similar pleasant tone of voice.
Second, the volume of your voice can also make or break the call. If your voice is too soft to be heard by the other person, then you are clearly not getting your message across. The objective is to communicate, so be sure that the other person will hear you on the other line. And the only way to do this is to make certain that your voice is loud enough. Keep in mind that you should not shout either because that is as ineffective as not being heard.
Take note that communicating through collection calls is basically the same as communicating to a client in person. Good service is expected from you and that would entail you to focus, listen and attend to the client in a professional manner.
This being said, treating a collection call the same way as servicing a client person will definitely be of help. The next time you make that phone call, it is best to relax and sit comfortably on your chair while adopting a good posture. Try not to be distracted with other things and focus on the call.
Communicating with confidence in collection calls is really not that hard to do. In fact, it is very simple if you just keep in mind the abovementioned techniques. Psyche yourself that it will be a pleasant experience for you and your client(s). The moment you adopt this positive approach combined with the guidelines of communicating with confidence, you will be able to do collection calls effectively in no time!
