Working With What You Have In Hand

By:Steven Fu

Over the weekend, my wife and I met a friend who is also a participant of my training program. We met at Shakey's Pizza Restaurant in Sri Petaling. It was raining heavily. I was wondering what lessons I am going to learn from Nature today; you may wonder, what I meant by that.

Every moment, Nature is slowly teaching and molding us to, eventually, do what we came here to do, the prime purpose of our existence. As such, although the majority of people whom I meet, especially my participants who meet me for some form of advice, I am always attentively listening to ensure that I am getting Nature's lessons for me "in between the lines".

Anyway coming back to my friend, she is in her forties and is in the midst of a mild crisis. She is not sure of what to do with her life. She has a wonderful family, loving husband and a beautiful daughter who is the love of her life. She has been a real estate agent for quite sometime; however, she feels that this is not what she wanted to do. So, about a year back, she decided to get involved in her real estate business on a part-time basis, and started to explore in her other areas of interest, mainly spirituality, yoga, meditation and so on.

However, nothing gave a clue. She faced obstacles in every other thing that she tried. At the same time, her finances too were not getting any better. She was in a dilemma on what to do. As she looked at me for an answer, I smiled and asked her, "what do you want?" She replied that she wanted to be in a better financial position so she could concentrate on her real estate business, help her daughter to be disciplined, get a proper maid to take care of the house, and so on.

I shook my head; interrupting her, I said that whatever she was asking for, her educated mind wanted them. Then with a firm voice I asked her, "what does your heart want you to do?" She was quiet for a while, getting connected to her inner voice. Then she said that deep in her heart she wanted to do trainings with regards to motivation and awareness. Another matter that her heart kept echoing to her was spirituality, but she has no idea what her heart actually meant by that.

I smiled and asked her why she was not pursuing them, as per her heart's wishes. She immediately replied that she had other issues to solve at the moment such as her finances, her daughter and of course the maid, and so on. At the same time, she felt that her husband would not be keen in her pursuing something different from her present line of work.

My wife and I looked at each other and just smiled. My friend looked at us, lost, expecting for an answer.

We, almost all the time, receive similar responses whenever we suggest to our friends and participants to pursue what their heart desires. The usual responses are no money, too much commitments, family would not approve, people may think I am crazy, it won't work, I think it is not possible, It may work for you but not for me, where do I turn for support, where do I get the money from, I don't think anyone would take me seriously, I was sneered at when I told my friends about what my heart wants, etc.

Now, this is what we call the educated mind; it sounds like it knows everything! However, the wise say that what we know is only a handful. The truth is no one really knows exactly what is going to happen in the future. We make a lot of plans using our educated mind, but do all the plans work out exactly as what we have planned?

When I was younger, my dad did his best to drill the idea of becoming a doctor into my mind. But I wanted to be a scientist! Then it changed to software development. Everyone thought I would be involved in software, but look at what I am doing now! Even I shake my head in disbelieve whenever I look back at my own life history! Never could I have dreamed being where I am today when I started out many many years ago!

The key is to be able to open up. That is your educated mind, to listen to your spiritual heart and take its cue. Now, coming back to my participant who was listening attentively; she asked me what I would do if my spiritual heart said as hers did, which is to do motivation and awareness based training. Without even skipping a beat, I said to her that firstly I would get a pen, a piece of paper and try to come out with a training module for the motivation and training program that my heart wants to do. At this point, she asked me how she would market her product, attract people to what she is offering, how much it would cost, etc.

I smiled. I said that she did not get what I meant by listening to the heart and working towards it! As she looked at me, I said, "we can only work with what we have in hand!"

Again, I repeated with a firmer tone, "we can only work with what we have in hand". Then, I continued to explain.

Whatever information or idea needed by a person to further improve his or her life, has already been made available by Nature! That is the ultimate TRUTH! The problem is in becoming aware of the fact that they are readily available! These information or idea is normally so simple that it often fools many, and at times it sounds downright ridiculous to the educated mind.

Looking at my participant intently, I said that the things like "how would she be able to market her training programs", "get people to participate in her programs", "how much it would cost", etc., do not matter at this moment of time because she simply does not have a ready product yet to worry that far! All she has at the moment is information or idea from her spiritual heart to indulge in training programs with regards to motivation and awareness. That is all! But here, she was already looking way too far ahead into the future and worry unnecessarily over the outcome.

Do you remember when you first went to school when you were very young? At that moment of time, did you ever get worried on how to finish high school, college, university, and graduate, get a job, get married, have a child, and how to pay the house mortgage, etc.? If you had ever given a single thought to all that, you would have probably collapsed and gone into a deep coma!

Hilarious, isn't it, a child while playing on a swing, thinking about all that? BUT that is what the majority of people in the world do. They plan and plan so far into the future that they become paralyzed just thinking about the whole thing: imagine, they have not even started but already paralyzed!

Do you think Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft Corporation had the whole idea of Windows Operating System, Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer Version 7, the newly launched Microsoft XBOX for games and so on, when he first started out Microsoft? Actually, at that moment of time he only had DOS in his hand, and a whole lot of willpower and passion to make it a success.

As per Law of Vibration and Attraction, he attracted the right people and ideas into his life to make his dream a reality. He worked on it until Microsoft DOS became a worldwide phenomenon as far as operating systems for personal computers are concerned. ONLY then Nature gave him more ideas to come up with a better system such as Windows and so on. Today, Microsoft is a giant corporation making billions of dollars a year!

No one actually knows how the future will be, but we are aware of what we have in hand at this moment. That is all we need to take further steps.

Then, looking into her eyes I said that the only thing that her heart has told her is to do training programs. Thus, to carry on from there, she would firstly need a training module. All she needs NOW is a pen and paper to start with, and this does not cost much money! At this moment she does not have to worry on how to market the product, whom to reach out to, etc.

This is what I mean by "working with what we have in hand". At the moment she has an idea, a pen and a piece of paper in hand. The spiritual heart has provided the idea; Nature has provided the pen and paper. At this moment she already has in hand what she needs! When she eventually starts to work on it, more ideas would start flowing in.
