1). Creating A Family Recipe Scrapbook
I can not tell you how many times I’ve called my mom and said “mom I just have to have your recipe for such and such”. It’s been a slow accumulation of recipes, but she chuckles each time I realize I need yet another recipe from her.
Now that I have an adult daughter of my own I really wanted to pass the recipes on to her also. Many of these recipes she’s been eating since she was old enough for solids.
2). Creating a Wedding Scrapbook
A scrapbook of a wedding is different than a photo album of a wedding. I believe a photo album is to showcase the photos taken at the wedding. I believe a scrapbook of the wedding is to share the story of the days/years leading up to the wedding and then share photos of the event itself.
The following suggestions are just that, suggestions. There is no right or wrong in creating a scrapbook.
3). Creating a Scrapbook For Your High Schooler in Band
I have such fond memories of my daughter spending her high school years in the marching band. I admit to wondering who had more fun, my daughter performing or her mom cheering her on at each performance.
Over the years, we have found quite an assortment of scrapbook papers, stickers and embellishments that were designed with a music theme.
You have the option of creating one scrapbook with all four years worth of photos or four separate scrapbooks, one for each year.
4). Choosing a Scrapbook Theme
I think one of the most common questions I am asked is “how do I find a theme amongst thousands of photos?”
When you begin scrapbooking, looking at thousands at photos can often lead you to put the photos away and not even consider getting them into scrapbooks.
Here are several themes you can consider. These are all very general themes to help you sort those thousands of photos:
• Children Through The Years – This would mean pulling out photos of the one child and putting the photos into a chronological order.
5). Creating a Surprise Party Scrapbook
It is so much fun to plan a surprise party. I planned a party for my mom for her 70th birthday. After it was over, I realized how much she did not know about the planning I had done.
I was able to recreate quite a bit for her scrapbook. My dad and I actually began making plans a year in advance. I began her scrapbook with a calendar page from the year before.
6). What is a Secret
As parents we have so much to worry about in regards to our children. We want to protect them from all of lifes dangers, yet we want to accomplish this without putting unnecessary fear into their lives.
When my children were small, we began talking about secrets. What is a good secret and what is a bad secret? This seemed to be a concept my children could understand, while accomplishing my goal of not scaring them.
7). Creating a Scrapbook For Teachers
It can be a lot of fun to create a scrapbook for an elementary school teacher. It’s also a great way to give the teacher photos of the kids without having 25 individual photos each school year. I have found many photo taking opportunities for teachers at the elementary level.
Often there is a class photo taken by the company taking the children’s individual photos.
8). Adding Other Items to Your Scrapbook
Scrapbooks are not meant just for photos. I tend to often date myself. When I was in elementary school, I had a scrapbook. Of course back then I used paper that is now yellow and I used glue. However, what’s important is I remember the contents of that scrapbook.
I kept movie ticket stubs, concert ticket stubs, love letters from boys I like, a test with an A+ on it and many other items.
9). Creating Scrapbooking Brag Books
What better gift than a brag book for grandma and grandpa? Over the years, I know that my parents have always appreciated photos that have been shared with them of all of their grandchildren.
As parents, we love attending plays, dance recitals, choral performances and graduations, whether from preschool, elementary school or high school. Grandparents are not always in town or available to attend these events.
10). Creating a Scrapbook For Temple Or Church
There are so many opportunities to create scrapbooks for all congregations. Through the years, as my own children have gone through the religious school program, had their confirmations etc, we’ve been asked to help put together albums to give to various people.
Scrapbooks can be given to clergy to celebrate their first year there. We are actually about to celebrate our clergy’s fifteenth year with us and we are planning a large dinner event.
11). Creating a Bridal Shower Scrapbook
Your best friend from college is getting married. You’re the maid of honor. You’re thinking there is no way you’re going to get her a toaster or blender. Why not make her a bridal shower scrapbook?
Once the invitations are chosen, save one, completely filled out to put at the beginning of the scrapbook. When you send out the invitations, ask each guest to mail you one photo of the bride with the guest, along with a few sentences about how they know the bride, or a special moment they’ve shared with the bride.
12). Protect Your Children With a Password
When we think of password protection, we think of bank accounts, computers, or even voice mail phone systems.
Our children are equally precious to us and need our protection. But how do we protect them?
When my kids were small we established a password, or codeword that only they and I knew. We chose a word very familiar to them, something they could remember, yet not something easily guessed by an outsider.
13). Creating Your Own Gift Baskets
Often when I need to purchase a gift I will give a home made gift basket. They are fun to shop for, fun to put together and are always appreciated by the recipient.
When my kids were young and my friends were all having their first babies, I created baby gift baskets. I started with an empty infant bath tub. I filled it with all kinds of things a first.
14). Creating an Alphabet Scrapbook
To make an alphabet scrapbook for a child, I suggest using an 8x8 album. My sister takes hundreds and hundreds of pictures of her daughter. I remember thinking “there she is with a banana”, and “there she is with an apple”, thus the idea of an alphabet scrapbook developed.
I like stencils. I created all 26 letters using a stencil. I then mounted the letters on the opposite corners.
15). Creating a Childrens Birthday Scrapbook
I remember when my kids were young, I loved their birthday parties and wanted to capture every moment. Often though, it wasn’t until after the party was over that I realized I only took a few photos and that I didn’t save any of the extra invitations.
Knowing in advance that you’ll want to make a scrapbook of your child’s party, you can save items such as the guest list, the invitations and any greeting cards the child gets in the mail.
16). Journaling With Bad Handwriting
If you are like me, you’d much rather type than write. I have never really liked my handwriting and I’m not fond of my printing either.
However our handwriting is a part of us. And if we are creating a scrapbook either for ourselves or for someone else, it’s nice to include something written by us, sharing that part of ourselves with the recipient of our scrapbook.
17). Does Your Business Have a Scrapbook Online
There is an old phrase that a picture can replace a thousand words. Pictures tell a visual story that words alone can not tell.
When I view websites of small businesses, I almost always find an “about us” page. This is usually one page with the date the business started, the explanation of why the business started and often a written explanation of the location of the business.
18). Taking Photographs for Your Scrapbook
Once you begin scrapbooking, you begin to see photography in a whole new light. When I created my first album I realized that my photos always had way too much space that was not part of the picture, meaning too much sky, or too much grass.
Now, one of the joys of scrapbooking is that you can cut away all of the excess sky, or all of the excess trees, however after you begin your first scrapbook you begin to take pictures a little bit differently.
19). Scrap Paper for Scrapbooking
I never throw away my scrap paper. I buy both 8x8 and 12x12 paper. I buy both patterned paper and cardstock. When I frame a photo, I have at least ¾ of a sheet of paper left. If I cut a border for the page, I have at least ¾ of a sheet of paper left. Even if I cut a 12x12 paper down to 8x8, I still have ¼ of a sheet left.
So what can you do with all of these scraps? One of my favorite things to do is to cut out shapes with hole punches.
20). How to Create a Scrapbook With Only Four Supplies
Wonderful scrapbooks can be created with only four supplies; an album, adhesive, paper and a corner rounder.
I remember being invited to a scrapbook party. Inwardly I groaned. I still draw stick figures. I have never possessed artistic ability. I remember almost crying in school when we had to do an art project. I could envision great things, but I could not create them.
21). Creating a Scrapbook of Your Cruise
For many, sailing away on a cruise is the end result of a years worth of planning. Start taking those photos the day you start planning.
How did you find out about the cruise? Make copies of the literature that led you to book this particular cruise.
Did you read about the many port cities the cruise ship will stop at? Do you have brochure or internet photos of these cities? Again, make copies and include them in your scrapbook.
22). Family Time Can be Scrapbooking Time
Involving kids in scrapbooking is a wonderful way to spend family time together. Depending on the age of your kids, they can help you with your album or they can create albums of their own.
Step one is going through photos. Children love to look at pictures. Young children love to tell you who the person in the picture is. Older children love to tell the story of the photo or ask you to tell the story of the photo.
23). Journaling In Your Scrapbook
Many people like to add words to their scrapbooks. Words help to tell the story behind the picture. There are several ways to add words to your scrapbook pages.
One way to journal is through premade words and phrases. You can find stickers, diecuts and word cutouts, all with different phrases. You can also use alphabet sets to create words on your pages.
24). Scrapbooking With Kids and Teens
As adults, when we think of scrapbooks, we immediately think of photographs. When we look online, we find albums filled with photographs. Of course many of the layouts we see are filled with embellishment but the central focus is the photographs.
Kids and teens also enjoy scrapbooking. Scrapbooks do not have to be photographs. Here are several ideas.
25). When Your Child Turns Eighteen
I think as parents, sometimes we think that on our child’s eighteenth birthday, something magical is going to happen. The truth is, they wake up the same person they went to bed as.
When my daughter went away to college, I admit to being completely blown away by the amount of students who had never had 100% freedom prior to coming to college. Up until.
26). How to Decide Which Direct Sales Company Is Best For You
Your head is swimming, you have been promised thousands of dollars, downlines that will be built for you, products that will change your life, an opportunity to achieve your wildest dreams. Wow and you only had asked the simple question "is starting a home based business for me?"
How do you even begin to piece together the massive amounts of information you've been given so that you can decide which opportunity is best for you?
You need to begin weeding out some of the offers you’ve found.
27). Car Lots Should Be Using Scrapbooks In Their Business
I’ve always wondered why I have never seen a scrapbook in the lobby of a car lot. Since I lease my vehicles, at least once every 5 years I find myself sitting in someone’s office as I wait for a manager somewhere to decide what price to charge me. During those 5 or 10 minutes I’m sitting there, I psyche myself up to be very defensive, knowing I won’t like the price, knowing I’ll have to negotiate, knowing I may walk out.
28). How to Save Money on Scrapbook Supplies
Scrapbooking is so much fun, that it’s very easy to rack up quite a bill when shopping. I know when my daughter and I visited the craft store last week, she was just mesmerized in the scrapbook aisle. She truly wanted one of everything. Today, there is so much you can add to a page, stickers, embellishments, ribbons and stamps.
So, how can you get all of the goodies without breaking the bank? I have two suggestions.
29). Creating a Holiday Scrapbook
Throughout the year we have both religious holidays and also secular holidays. I remember as a kid our family always spent the fourth of July with some friends of my parents. I have very fond memories of this family and actually remember their home and some of the various years we spent with them.
Depending on how many photos you take, you can either create a few small 6x6 albums, one for each holiday, or you can create one large 12x12 album and call it “Holiday’s of (fill in year)”.
30). Creating a Scrapbook of Your Baby
I think baby scrapbooks are probably the most fun to create. As parents, we want to capture absolutely everything and so we snap photos daily of our babies dressed in every outfit and everywhere we go. This gives us hundreds of possibilities in creating our scrapbook.
My suggestion for the first scrapbook is to keep track of your baby’s age and sort the photos according to age.
31). Creating a Scrapbook For Your High Schooler in Theater
At the last play my daughter attended she snapped almost 200 photos. While this is a bit excessive, it does show that you can make an entire scrapbook from just one performance.
Flash photography is almost never allowed during a live performance, however as a parent, if you spoke with the teacher ahead of time, there is a good chance you can take photos during a dress rehearsal.
32). Creating a Scrapbook For Your Non Profit Organization
I have found that all non profit organizations share one thing in common, they need money. They need money to rent the building and keep it running. They need money to pay staff, and they need money to offer the community whatever it is they offer.
What is the question that those who donate money often ask? “Where is my money going?” Most folks do not want to donate money to pay an electric bill or to buy a new computer for the office.
