1). Elvis Presley.. A Man for His Times
He could be humble, temperamental, charming, playful, or impulsive. And then there was his music. Elvis Presley impacted people in many different ways. Those who knew him and those who knew of him. He is ranked as the number one performer in the history of rock and roll. Bigger than all of ‘em. They called Elvis Presley ‘The King of Rock N’ Roll’.
It.
2). Internet Radio
When personal computers began taking hold around the world in the mid-90’s, only the most foresighted folks saw a need in the future for internet radio. After all, there was no sense in investing time in broadcasting (streaming) on the internet to people who could not make it portable and take it with them. Then along came laptops. Followed by Wi-Fi.
3). Rock Music..Then and Now
I have a friend in the music business who only listens to Rock 'classics'. Hasn't given contemporary Rock music any play. Shame. There is always great music coming out that's worthy of a listen. Although I don't stay up on Rock music the way I did when I was younger, I still like to hear what's being played. I do like listening to Three Doors Down, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nickleback, Bush, and groups like that.
4). Why Women Nag
As I was driving back from my sister's yesterday, I got to thinking about how often she reminded Frank about doing this or doing that, and his reply being "I will Deb, or "ok, ok" or something to that effect, and I got to thinking why is it that many women seem to 'nag' us about doing one thing or another, and one of those simple but profound answers came to me, because they have do! What I mean by that if women didn't constantly remind us of things needing to be done, they would NEVER get done.
5). Online Radio vs. Conventional Radio Stations
When I first got the bug to develop an internet oldies station in 1999, little did I realize that interest in internet radio would grow to what it is today. And it ain’t finished. Oldies Radio on the web specifically continues to grow due to an apparent desire of conventional AM & FM oldies programmers to kill the hen that laid the golden eggs. To a lesser degree, oldies radio stations in the USA in the early 21st century have taken the same approach that AM stations followed in the late 70’s and early 80’s.
6). Chuck Berry..Rock and Roll Survivor
If one can lay a tag on this former St. Louis hairdresser, perhaps the word ‘Survivor’ will fit. Chuck Berry is without a doubt a man who has wandered an incredible path since breaking on the music scene with ‘Maybelline’ in 1955. Berry acquired the nickname ‘America’s Teenage Storyteller’ with his relevant lyrics, catchy rhythms and almost playful vocal deliveries while racking up hit after hit in the 50’s.
7). Oldies Radio
The first oldies formats appeared on American radio in the early 70’s. One early innovator was WCBS-FM in New York. Until then, oldies radio as such was limited to special programming on traditional Top 40 AM stations. Every now and then, such outlets would promote ‘Greaser Weekends’, ‘Million Dollar Weekends’, or promote a special as ‘every other hit a solid gold classic’!
Historically, Top 40 stations would back in the day play one, maybe two goldens an hour in regular format.
8). Online Radio
Online radio has produced a community all its own, and as recently as the late 90’s who would have ever believed it would happen? Actually, many people DID have a vision of what it could become.
A lot of up and coming groups and soloists today find it next to impossible getting radio stations of any format to even audition their song, let alone provide airtime for it.
