His hard earned money? Gone. Creditors on his back everyday. The cops knocking on his door. His family strained to the breaking point. He didn't do anything wrong but my business partner's life got turned upside down afew years back. He became a victim of what is now the fastest growing crime in the world. Identity theft.
According to the Federal Trade Commission, since 1999 over 27 million people in the US alone became victims of this epidemic 10 million more last year.
2). Do You Know an Identity Thief?
What makes identity theft the epidemic it has become? The fact that half of all victims know the person that committed the theft according to the Better Business Bureau's 2005 Fraud Survey.
Watch out for these red flags
1. Resentment
I worked for a company that handled lost and stolen credit card reports. I don't know how many times someone called and said their ex or soon to be ex spouse stole all of their financial information and went on a vengeance spending spree.
3). Go Viral! Marketing That Is.
Viral Marketing also known as Viral Advertising is a marketing technique used to build the public awareness of one’s product or company.
Companies ride on the idea that if people like a good movie, funny story etc, they will pass it on to their friends and family. The company brands their logo or a product description to go with that particular media.
4). Baby, Can I Afford You? Dating On The Thrift.
Sure you want to impress your date but for crying out loud you don't want to take out a government loan to do it. No problem. With a little creativity, going on a date can be inexpensive and still a lot of fun.
Like what? Well…
The Theater
Most cities have local theater companies. You and your date could see a play at a fraction of the cost of the same play performed by a big time out of town production company.
5). You need money to get web traffic…Huh?
It takes money to make money. That statement is pretty much a universal truth Here’s another truth that applies to the internet. To make money from your website you must have a steady flow of website traffic. No visitors, no income. This has been the downfall of many internet businesses.
Now you might ask “sure it takes a steady flow of traffic but don’t I need a fat bankroll to generate that TRAFFIC?”
In technical language: Uh-uh.
6). Identity Theft: Phishing in Dangerous Water
Have you received one yet? You know. The email directing you to visit a familiar website where for some odd reason you’re being asked to update your personal information? The website asks you to verify your passwords, credit card numbers, social security number, or even your bank account. You recognize the company name as one that you’ve done business with in the past, so you click on the “take me there” link and proceed to provide all the information they’ve requested.
