1). Being an Optimist - Part 1
OK, so maybe you hate optimists. You have this picture in your mind of someone mindlessly watching Pollyanna on the late show until three o'clock in the morning, then rising at 5:0o A.M. and singing "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah" in the shower until the entire household is awake, causing a bad start to an otherwise perfectly OK day. A far more discerning look at optimists shows that they are life's big winners.

2). Being an Optimist - Part 2
ENERGIZATION

Now pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start to feel good about yourself. Take a lesson from Step 4, "Practice Emotional Broadcasting," and have a chat with the poor little guy. Help him dispute feeling badly about himself. Tell him accidents do happen and that he's a great little guy. Provide a real emotional bond. Try the same thing when you get into an altercation with adults.

3). The Psychological Reality of Positive Thought and Complex Thought
A whole new school of psychiatry has grown up around the development of positive thinking. The key is intercepting negative thoughts. Surprisingly, no matter how positive we think we are, many of us have internal, mostly negative chatter that ties up thecerebral circuits all day long. Much of this chatter is actually pretty idiotic if you stop and listen to it.
