1). Pumping or Pounding to Build Muscle Mass?
Copyright 2006 Jonathan Perez
There are pretty much 2 schools of thought in how to gain muscle weight: you are either a "pumper", meaning you do a lot of sets for a lot of reps, using lower weights, and you go after the "pump".
Or, you are a "pounder", meaning you do a low number of sets, a lower rep range, but you use as much weight as possible, so you are more concerned with getting stronger than getting a pump.
2). You Don't Need Special Food To Gain Muscle Weight!

More than likely you've been told or have read over and over again that in order to gain serious muscle weight you "must" eat a very high protein diet...you "must" use certain supplements...you "must" avoid sweets, like chocolate candy bars...etc., etc.
So, then, why is it that you have literally millions and millions.
3). To Gain Muscle, All Pros Do Only 1 Set!

Every pro bodybuilder does only 1 set per exercise to failure to gain muscle mass...whether they say so or not.
I'm going to answer one of the most asked, most contradicted questions about how to train to gain weight around:
"How many sets does it take to gain muscular size and development?"
Now, I'm referring to sets per exercise.
4). Why You Don't Need Protein To Gain Muscle!

There are all kinds of diet recommendations all over the bodybuilding magazines and websites that advise to divide your eating into different "ratios" and "percentages" for building muscle mass and gaining weight.
Some recommend high fat, low carb, others say moderate carbs, moderate fat, high carbs, low fat, etc. But the one thing that each and every one of these "weight gain" / "muscle building" diets say is it must be HIGH in protein.
5). Protein is NOT the Best Food to Build Muscle

In my previous article, “Why You Don’t Need Protein To Gain Muscle”, I wrote about 1 of the 3 incorrect beliefs that everyone has of protein, thinking that you must eat massive amounts to gain weight and build muscle mass.
I spoke about why it is NOT true that protein is what makes up most of the muscle weight on your body.
6). Will Raising My Growth Hormone Help Me Build Muscle Mass?

I'm reading a lot lately about training techniques that supposedly raise your natural growth hormone (GH) to help you gain weight / build muscle mass.
Techniques such as super sets, drop sets, static holds, high volume, very high reps, pumping, and circuit training are claiming to be the way to "naturally" raise this hormone in the body.
7). Cardio Does Not Burn That Much Fat!

The factor we are going to consider here is if cardio burns a significant amount of calories, hence lose weight / burn fat, while performing the aerobic activity.
Well, obviously, any activity you perform, whether it's cardio, lifting, mowing the lawn, etc., requires the body to burn calories for fuel and energy.
So, yes, cardio burns calories / fat / weight.

I spoke about why it is NOT true that protein is what makes up most of the lean muscle weight on your body.

Many people looking to burn / lose a significant amount of fat / weight can become very confused when they read and hear all of the conflicting information that's spread on TV, magazines, the internet, and diet books. ..
One of the most misunderstood techniques is the low carb diets that have been very popular in the last several years.

If you could find out about a way to get much more out of the food you are already eating, allowing you to lose weight at a faster rate, would you be interested?
If you could find out how to not feel as bloated, gas-y, or down-right "heavy feeling" in the stomach after eating a meal, would you want to know?
If you could find out an easy way to help your body better use the protein, carbohydrates, and fats you already eat help you burn more body fat, how would you react?
No.

Many people looking to gain muscle weight can become very confused when they read and hear all of the conflicting information that's spread on TV, magazines, the internet, and diet books.
One of the most misunderstood techniques is the low carb diets that have been very popular in the last several years.
The popular belief lately is that sugar (carbohydrates) should be kept to moderate to low levels in your eating, even if you are trying to build muscle mass and / or gain muscle weight.
13). Cardio & Your Metabolism: Will It Help You Lose Weight?
Copyright 2006 Jonathan Perez
Does cardio significantly raise the body’s “metabolic rate”?
First off, the metabolic rate, in very simple terms, is basically the rate / speed and amount of calories that your body will burn, whether doing something or at rest.
So, in other words, someone that has a hard time losing weight more than likely has a very slow metabolic rate…….
14). Whole Foods vs Shakes For Muscle Gain

After many years of spending hundreds, and even thousands, of dollars, after getting sick on them, and after seeing NO KIND OF RESULTS from them, many have finally realized that they are WORTHLESS.
Yet, many are still confused if the supplements that are sold as "Meal Replacements", "Weight Gainers", "natural supplements", and "amino acids" have some good use in substituting for some WHOLE FOODS.
15). Does Thermogenesis Help You Lose Weight Fast?

One of the many reasons everyone and their mother seems to recommend eating a high protein diet to lose weight and burn fat is because of this "thermogenic" effect.
People are under the misconception that you can lose a lot of weight real fast without if you eat a high protein diet.
This is because protein DOES have a thermogenic effect on the body.
