1). A Latin Dictionary Saved My Life
In many ways, I have never been much of a student, especially if you are talking about being a student within the confines of a classroom. I've always loved learning, don't get me wrong, but get me inside a classroom for months on end and there is little that can be done to keep me interested in even the most fascinating subjects. I have no real idea how I managed to make it through four years of college.
2). A Little More Than Fate
Is there an ideal kind of life that you dream about? Perhaps your ideal life consists of more money, more friends, or more time to do the things you love. Maybe the ideal life is one filled with less work and more vacations. Having the ideal life can be as simple as starting to exercise more, losing weight and becoming healthy again. Whatever kind of life you dream about having, I guarentee that it will take a little more than fate to get you there.
3). A Low Carb Diet Worked For Me
There has been a lot of talk in recent years about the important of cutting out carbohydrates, or carbs, from a normal diet. I cannot tell you how many articles I have read and how many news clips I have watched about the benefits of a low-carb eating plan. Frankly, I'm a little tired of hearing all the reasons that I should alter what I eat. I'm sick of hearing about all of the consequences if I don't make these changes.
4). Art For Sale: Keep An Eye Out
As an interior designer, I always have my eyes peeled for the latest and greatest things for decorating homes and office spaces. I have a knack for detail and a knack for making mis-matched things come together, so interior design is the perfect job for me. One of my favorite things to watch for and to encourage my clients to watch for is any art for sale.
5). Be Picky About Computer Keyboards
If there is anything I have learned in the past ten years of being an editor that is using my computer all day, it is that it is good and right to be absolutely picky when it comes to choosing computer keyboards. If this seems like an insignificant choice to you, then it is clear that you, unlike me, do not spend the majority of your days typing on a computer.
6). Body Care Shows That You Care
Few things show that you care about your life, your happiness, your relationships and ultimately your destiny like good body care. You only have one life to live, so why not live it well. Why not take the time and effort to have good body care and to love yourself.
Good body care is easy and hard all at the same time. It is easy in that it is really possible to have a longer, healthier life if you have good body care habits now.
7). Business Owners: Customer Satisfaction Is Key
As a consultant for people who are considering starting their own small business, I naturally have many things to share with people. Clients come to me with a host of questions about the process of starting a business and about the details of what to focus on above everything else. Once we have talked through the logistics and the finances that are necessary in starting a business, I quickly move into talking about the keys to running a successful business.
8). Career Development Takes Work
Do you currently have the career of your dreams? If so, congratulations on all your hard work, because I'm quite sure that your success and accomplishment didn't happen over night. If you do not have the career you have always dreamed of, do not worry, you can get there. Career development isn't easy, but it is definitely worth it.
Career development can mean a lot of things.
9). Check Out Used Car Sales - First!
When you are looking to purchase a car, there are countless steps in the process and countless details to consider. It can quickly become quite an overwhelming and discouraging process. I have been a financial advisor for many years, so maybe I am a bit biased in this process, but I have one main bit of advice for anyone looking to purchase a car: check.
10). Choose An Aquarium For The Kids
The chances are high that as long as you have kids they will continue to ask for new things, better things, and more entertaining things. They will ask for the latest toys, electronics, and games. At some point they will ask for expensive clothes, cell phones and cars. Probably most kids will ask for a pet at least once during their childhood years.
11). Choose The Perfect Accommodations
One of the best ways to make a great vacation quickly horrible is to choose the wrong accommodations for your trip. There is nothing quite as bad as spending a great day of vacation only to come back to a less-than-great place to stay for the night. Anytime you are away from home it is important to choose the best accommodations for your comfort and enjoyment.
12). Choose The Right Furniture
If you are lucky enough to have a bar in or near your kitchen, then you know what a useful place a bar can be. Those who live without a bar don't know the way that it adds space and seating options and the way it allows families to gather for short or long times in a setting more informal than at the dining room table. My kitchen bar has become the gathering place for my children both before and after school.
13). Collect A Bowl Or Two
In the past few years I have had the privilege of traveling to over thirty countries for my work. Many people tell me that I have a dream job, and I'd have to agree. When I was a little kid, no one told me that there were jobs available that you got to travel the world and write about the things you saw and experienced for other people to read. If they had told me, I would have known my career goal all along.
14). Consider Bartending
If you're looking for a new profession or even just for a summer job, then there are many things to be considered. Take bartending for example. Bartending sounds and seems like it would be one of the easiest and least stressful jobs there is. What could really be that difficult about memorizing a few drinks and then making them for customers?
Bartending, like any other profession, is much more than it might first seem.
15). Debt Consolidation Is Simple
In our Western culture we know way too much about debt. It is much more rare to find an individual or a family that is not in debt than it is to find people who are burdened by debt. Shouldn't it be the other way around? Shouldn't we, living in the most well-developed society in the history of the world, no how to live in a way that keeps us free from debt? Obviously not.
16). Don't Use Too Much Concentration
Whether you are facing a small problem or a huge problem, one of the worst things you can do spend too much energy and concentration on the problem. Our minds have this incredible power to make our lives easier or harder based on the way we choose to use them. Concentration on problems, hardships, or the stresses of life will inevitably lead you to increase your focus on these things and to miss out on all of the good things that are happening in your life.
The solution to...
17). Every Computer Needs Anti Virus Software
There are a few things in life that everyone simply needs. I'l be the first to agree that we use the word "need" far too often when really we are probably wanting something rather than truly needing it. I believe strongly that everyone needs clean water, adequate food, proper medical care and a safe place to live and sleep. I will not say, however, that everyone in the world needs to drive an expensive sports car or go on vacation four times a year.
18). Get Rid Of That Dangerous Belly Fat!
It is a proven fact that belly fat is the most dangerous kind of fat on the human body. We have all seen people who are overweight in just their stomach region and appear fit in every other place. It is a strange thing, isn't it? It seems like we are all overweight somewhere or another, and while we all need to keep track of our weight and be proactive about maintaining a healthy lifestyle, those who carry extra belly fat need to be aware even more.
19). Give Your Congratulations Creatively
There are endless reasons in life to offer congratulations to yourself and to others. However, isn't it true that most of the time we offer congratulations to everyone in much the same way? Regardless of the age, preferences or accomplishment of the person we are attempting to congratulate, we often do it in the same way: a boring card, a gift card to a general store that many people do not shop at, or, if they are lucky, a bouquet of fresh flowers. Congratulations is rarely ...
20). Good Reasons To Send Email Cards Instead
I love technology. I love all of the ways that technology has made my life easier and more simple. I guess I'm a guy that likes things as uncomplicated as possible, so that is in fact why I have come to treasure the gift that the internet truly is. There are so many ways that the internet has affected my life that I'm not sure where to begin. I guess I'll share that the internet has affected my relationships immensely and hence my life is different too.
21). Grab A Bible Commentary
Whether you have been studying the Bible for years or if you have just read it for the first time there is always more that can be learned and understood. For Christians, the Bible is the ultimate source of truth and the guidebook for living. Therefore, it is important that each Christian understand the Bible the best that he or she can. A Bible commentary can be one of the best tools for getting the most out of Scripture.
22). Guard Your Mental Health
I am a firm believer that the mental health of a person is just as important as their physical health. I guess I believe this so strongly because I have seen the affects of someone not caring about the state of their mental health. By mental health I am not referring to the serious mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, or any of the other very serious issues people often face.
23). Have Too Much? Give It To Charity!
Every person I know has a house filled with many things. Go into your bedroom and look in your closet. I am quite sure that you do not wear all of the clothes you see (although congratulations if you do!). And I am equally sure that you do not really need all ten pairs of similar black dress shoes. Or take a glance at your recreation gear in the garage.
24). How To Help During Cancer Treatment
Having a family member, friend or co-worker battle against cancer is one of the hardest and worst realities in life. No one likes to help someone deal with cancer, but at some point almost all of us will have the opportunity to walk beside someone we care about through one of the most difficult times of their life: cancer treatment.
I have had the privilege (and I do mean privilege) of helping out both of my parents and one of my closest friends during their weeks and mont...
25). I Always Look At License Plates
I am one of those people that always gets a little board when I drive. I love to be in the car, but I get a little ansy when I have nothing other than driving to do. Being in the car with friends or family is great because then we can share good conversation, but I don't always have people in the car with me. I recently took a long road trip across most of the country.
26). I Love A Good Game Of Darts
Isn't it strange how there are some things from childhood that you don't miss and that you'll probably never do again and then how there are things that you loved so much you would still do them everyday as an adult if you could? Well, I've been missing the strangest things from childhood lately, I'll admit it. For example, I've been missing some of the games that my siblings and I used to entertain ourselves with as young children.
27). I'm Glad I Have A Table
love my house. I love almost everything that is in my house. I'm glad that I have a bed to sleep in, a hot shower to take on cold days, and a refrigerator that keeps my food cold. I've recently realized, however, the my table is one of the best and most underappreciated things in my house. When is the last time you reflected on all the ways something as simple as a table helped your life?
There are many reasons I love my table.
28). I've Learned To Love Teen Art
I have loved art for as long as I can remember. As a child I spent hour after hour doing art projects of all kinds with my mother and my siblings. We would paint, practice sewing or create things out of clay for hours on end. I never knew that the amount of art projects we worked on was abnormal until I got a bit older and heard all of my friends and school talking about their years of playing with trucks and action figures or being outside building forts.
29). Invest In Timeshares
Taking regular vacations is something that everyone would love but few people actually do. There are many reasons for this I guess, not the least of which is having enough money to get away each year and just relax. For me, one of the biggest reasons that vacations never materialized for my family was because of the stress that it took to plan a great family vacation.
30). It's About Long Term Care
Whether you think about your car, your favorite sweater, or your own health, wouldn't you agree that you should care for each of those things with long term care? In my own life, much damage has been done by trying to take care of things based on what they needed in the moment. It was all about the quick fixes that kept my car running for another day or my computer running long enough to write another article.
If you are a parent, think about your children. If your kids ar...
31). Make A Great Car History
I have many friends that brag about their amazing car history to anyone who will listen. They rant and rave about all of the great memories they have made with their car and they cannot stop talking about all of the great road trips their trusty car has taken them on. I'll be honest, I got a little jealous after hearing a few of their stories, so I decided to share a little car history of my own.
32). Make A Visit To Aruba
I love nothing more than sitting down with someone or a family of people and helping them to plan their next vacation. Why? Well, a few reasons I guess. First, I love to go on vacation. I have loved travel for as long as I can remember, so I love infecting other people with the travel bug. I also love helping people plan trips because I know that life is short and I believe that it was meant to be enjoyed.
33). Men: Date Your Wives!
I have been married long enough to learn a few things. Some of the lessons I have learned have come from doing things right, but the vast majority of the lessons I've learned from marriage have come from areas that I've completely failed in. I share my mistakes with men in hopes that they will not have to make the same mistakes for themselves. Perhaps one of the biggest mistakes that I made during the first years of my marriage was that I didn't take my wife out on a single date.
34). On Picking The Right Graduation Song
When I was graduating from high school and then from college, there were many details that I was trying to think through and many decisions that I was trying to make, not the least of which was what graduation song I would choose to represent my transition from one season of life to the next. You see, among my family and friends it is tradition for anyone graduating to choose a graduation song to be sort of the theme of their accomplishment and their place in life.
35). Simple Tips For Hair Restoration
One of the biggest annoyances in life is hair loss. As a physician, I encounter people every day that are experiencing different levels of hair loss. Some have just started to notice that their hair is thinning while others barely have any hair left at all. I don't want to minimize the seriousness of many people's condition or of the process of hair restoration.
36). Still Haven't Gone Cellular?
You might be surprised to learn that many, many people have still not caught the bug and gone celluar. Shocking isn't it, to think that people are actually living in our current world without the use of a cellular phone? So I write not to shock anyone, but instead to provide a few reasons why people should really consider getting on board with a cellular phone.
37). Summertime Must Include A Waterpark
Summertime is officially approaching, and there are many things that everyone must do in the summer. I absolutely love summer, so my friends and family know to be ready for endless days and nights of fun as soon as summer rolls around. I just love summer. I love the fact that it is warm enough to be outside for as long as you want without having to bundle up, and I love that I can never run out of fun things to do with the people I love the most.
38). The Blessing Of Online Dictionaries
I have a job that requires me to be at the computer all day and quite often using the internet. I love my job (except for having to sit down all day) because I am constantly amazed by the world that the internet opens up to me. I cannot believe how much there is to be learned and explored through the internet. There are literally endless possibilities of pages to search and topics to learn about online.
39). The Garage: A Man's Best Friend
If a woman's place is in the kitchen, what is the man's place in the home? If a woman loves to work with her hands and create beautiful meals for her family, where does a man like to work and keep busy? For some men, it is the home office, but for most men, their place is in the garage.
A garage is a man's treasure house. It is full of the things a man loves most.
40). The Great Barrier Reef: A Must See
It has been my privilege over the past twenty years to travel to many parts of the globe. When I was hired to be a traveling photojournalist for a popular travel magazine, I had no real idea what kind of life lay ahead of me. I never really expected to spend weeks on an African safari or climbing the Great Wall of China. I guess I sort of expected that my job would take me to places like Kansas and Canada.
41). The Greatest Parody Ever Seen
I am not always a huge fan of parody as a means of comedy, but when my high school advanced drama class suggested to me that we create a parody of our high school and then perform it for the end of the year production, I had to take their idea seriously and consider it. It took me a few days to get through the details of the idea, but I determined that it would be a great project for our class to create every aspect of our spring play rather than perform one that has already been written.
42). The Power Of A Reward
Whether you are a teacher, parent or business owner, you probably know that people require consistent motivation in order to keep moving, growing, and being productive. Your four year old daughter and your thirty year old employee need reasons to do the things you're asking of them. There are many ways to motivate people, but perhaps one of the best ways of motivating people of all ages is to give an award.
An award can be given for a variety of reasons. I know no one that...
43). The Right Furniture
No apartment, home or office is complete without the right furniture. In fact, having the wrong furniture or no furniture at all can make a home feel like nothing more than a uninviting house. Great furniture can make a physician's office a place of comfort and rest rather than a place for anxiety. Entertaining people in your home can be a pleasure if you have the right amount of good furntiture for people to enjoy.
44). The Smell Of Charcoal In The Summer
There are few things that I anticipate as much as the start of summer. Sure, I am a man that loves all the seasons, but none give me the thrill that summer inevitably does every year. When I start to think about summer, I get excited because there are literally countless things to be excited about. I get excited about being outside without freezing, I get excited about camping trips with my family, I get excited about long days at the beach soaking up the water and the sun, and I get excited about charcoal.
45). Thinking Of Building A House?
If the idea of building your own home sounds exciting and promising, you're not alone. When thinking about moving to a new city or even just to a new house, many people consider the option of building rather than buying. Building a house is a great option for many people, but not for all people. Is building a house right for you and your family?
Building a house on a piece of property where there once was nothing more than a few weeds and trees sounds novel and challenging...
46). Warm Weather Is Full Of Potential
The fact that spring is here means a few things. Spring means that the coldness of winter has passed us by yet again. Spring means that the school year is winding down and that children will be free again soon. Spring also means that the wonderful season of summer is on it's way soon. I love spring because it means that warm weather, the best kind of weather, is about to arrive.
47). What's The Deal With Ear Wax?
There are many things in life that I don't understand. I don't understand why people have such an addiction to the television, I don't understand why some people are afraid to fly, and I don't understand why anyone would choose to eat asparagas. Ear wax is another small thing in life that I don't really understand. I've heard people say that ear wax is for our good, that it is protection for our bodies and that it is natural to have, but I still cannot understand why ear wax really exists or how I am supposed to feel about it.
48). Why I've Always Wanted A Garden Fountain
I have always been smitten with the smallest things in life. In fact, even as a kid I remember being fascinated with small things and with finding beauty in places that most people ignored. So when it came time to purchase a home for me and my own family, there were naturally so many detail things that I was concerned about. As an architect, I was obviously concerned in detail with the layout of the house and with the way each room would fit into the bigger plan for the house.
