2). Mirror Mirror On The Wall Who Is The Fattest Of Us All?
Copyright 2006 Mary Desaulniers
Did you know that 75% of women believe they are fat even though only 25% are actually considered medically overweight? Did you know that 75% of 4th Grade girls report that they are on a diet? Did you know that dieting can be an eating disorder as serious as binge eating? Given the impact of body image on women’s consciousness, it is not surprising that eating disorder is becoming a critical problem in our age of affluence.
3). Teen Marketing And Body Image
Copyright 2006 Mary Desaulniers
You see them everywhere—magazines featuring emaciated teen models with brash, defiant looks that say “We express ourselves,” their arms and ankles glistening with fashion accessories. The definition of “cool chick” in another magazine is a glossy-lipped, half-woman, half-child peeking ambivalently behind a set of heavily mascared eyes.
4). Dreaming the Field: The Importance of Dreams
What is the purpose of dreams? Recent developments in New Physics suggest that dreams are means by which we can access the field or global consciousness. Far from being random, they help us connect with the world beyond space and time.
5). Sleep Deprivation and Traffic Accidents
Perhaps an examination of the influence sleep deprivation has on our mental acuity and performance level can shed light on how we can protect ourselves and others from the disastrous consequences of sleep fatigue.
6). Houseplants for Better Sleep

According to the principles of Feng Shui, strategic placement of objects can mean the difference between health and illness. Placing houseplants in the main living areas of a house, for example, can enhance the flow of energy through the entire structure. Similarly, placing houseplants in the bedroom can mean better sleep for the occupants of the house.
7). Microdermabrasion: Aging in a Skin Deep Culture
To my generation (50 plus), immersed in the bias of technology with its implicit faith that science will redeem all natural inclinations, including aging, these words sound very seductive: "microdermabrasion" actually sounds abrasive enough to be effective. Short of surgery, it is a non-invasive form of the extreme makeover. But is it a necessary part of aging?
8). Foods and Supplements that Control Cellulite
Keeping the cell body firm and intact would mean keeping control over fatty deposits.Certain foods and supplements known for their cell-building properties can help control cellulite.
9). Using Herbs for Weight Loss
There are, however, herbs for weight loss that can supplement—not replace— healthy eating and exercise. These herbs can help increase the body’s digestive and metabolic efficiency and make easier the process of long-term health and weight management.
10). Water Dance:The Holosync Evolution
Copyright 2006 Mary Desaulniers
Each morning, for the space of an hour, I am immersed in water. For an hour, I meditate to the Holosync sounds of rain, water, waves, a liquid drumming that rolls beyond the pulse to a deeper source. Somehow during that hour, my breathing becomes more formed, more regulated, more entrained, like a pair of dancing legs that has found the rhythm at last and could well afford to be caught by a larger, deeper power.
11). Color-- The Pathway To The Soul
Copyright 2006 Mary Desaulniers
You are what you eat, and you are what you think, but do you know that you are also the color that you choose? The fact that colors have psychological significance and that meditating on them can heal old, emotional wounds is the basis of Dr. John Diamond’s breakthrough in Meditative therapy—The Diamond Color Meditation.
12). Water Dance: The Holosync Evolution
The writer entertains the spiritual, psychological and emotional changes that have emerged in her since her experience with Holosync meditation.
13). Writing Help And Morning Pages
Copyright 2006 Mary Desaulniers
Reading Julia Cameron’s "The Sound of Paper" is like revisiting an old friend. For more than fifteen years, her morning pages have been my daily writing help, the friend that coaxed me out of fear and inertia about putting words on paper and like the Nike slogan, urged me to “Just Do It!”
Why is it so difficult to write? Writing is an activity removed from direct experience.
14). Stressed? Have A Talk With Your Body!
Copyright 2006 Mary Desaulniers
Ilana Rubenfeld Ph.D knows first hand what having a conversation with your body means. A gifted violinist at the Julliard School of Music, Rubenfeld was well on her way to become the first woman conductor in the music scene when a debilitating back spasm cut short her music career. It was at that point that Rubenfeld turned to the resources of her body and transformed trauma into triumph by embarking on a personal mission to look for answers in the body’s wisdom.
15). From Cells To Self in the Biology Of Belief
Copyright 2006 Mary Desaulniers
What is the connection between a cell membrane and the human brain? A lot, according to cell biologist, Dr. Bruce Lipton, whose book "The Biology of Belief", details reasons why we can be the creators of our own destiny. A renowned cell biologist and former professor at the University Of Wisconsin Medical School, Bruce Lipton shows precisely how the molecular processes behind the brain’s functioning work.
16). Sleep Disorders and Leg Movement
Copyright 2006 Mary Desaulniers
Fifteen years ago, I fractured my ankle. It required surgery, the insertion of one metal plate and four pins. My leg was placed in a cast and I was told to keep the leg suspended for at least 2 months. Despite the hospital noise and light, I was able to sleep. But what I can never forget is that my dreams were filled with running episodes and disordered leg movements —me running up and down hills, even falling on the uneven grassy surface.
17). Beyond Bra Fit
Bra fit is just one aspect of getting the right bra. We must consider need as well. No more is this more evident than in the relationship between form and function in bras.
18). The Bodysuit
Copyright 2006 Mary Desaulniers
If you want to look polished outside, make sure that what you wear inside is up to snuff. The inner world mirrors the outer one, so we are told in philosophical circles; nowhere is this more evident than in the world of lingerie. How many times have we seen a $500 dress suit scandalized by the lumpy rolls or ripples emerging from an ill-fitting bra?
A tailored outfit should look what it is meant to do—make you look sleek and tailored.
19). Obesity and Heart Disease
Copyright 2006 Mary Desaulniers
We only have to look at a Titian painting to recognize that at one point in the history of Western culture, fat was considered beautiful. Before the 20th Century, corpulence was touted as a sign of wealth and luxury, largely because most people were barely surviving on a meager existence.
Ironically, now in our era of affluence and plenty, we have to contend with the health and economic problems of obesity.
20). The Blue Matrix and Body Wisdom

Artist as Healer—Healer as Artist, Sharlene McLearon creates work that images art as a healing force for herself, others and the Earth. Her paintings are expressive and symbolic. Most are images that emerged from a healing dimension and in their own profound way, will lead viewers to be healed as well. Her paintings speak in “unspoken words” and open up the heart and mind of the viewer to limitless possibilities.
21). Smart Eating
We need all the macronutrients in our daily diet—protein, carbohydrates and fats. But we also need to eat with intelligence so that we can choose the most low-fat sources of protein, the best sources for low glycemic carbs and essential fats.
22). Hair Loss and Supplements
Copyright 2006 Mary Desaulniers
It wasn't until his mid-fifties that my father started losing his hair. I remember the boxes of lotions, creams, heating massage pads that kept coming to his house (much to my stepmother's chagrin). But his hairline kept receding and a decade later, only a well-greased tuft remained on the crown of his head.
Genetics had a lot to do with his situation.
23). The New Anti-Wrinkle Treatment
Copyright 2006 Mary Desaulniers
We are bombarded on all fronts with new anti-wrinkle treatments and new sophisticated skin regimen that are supposed to take years off the face—microdermabrasion, botox injections, face lifts and laser resurfacing. More than ever, we are harnessing the powers of technology to create a Brave New World of ageless boomers.
24). The Truth About Senior Moments
Copyright 2006 Mary Desaulniers
We all have our moments when the word stays paralyzed in our throat. We can see the face, hear the voice, but we struggle to name who it is we have in our mind. Most of us have dismissed such moments as senior moments. After all, we reason, they are part of aging. However, a new study that emerged from Chicago recently suggests otherwise.
25). Moving Towards An Ageless Body
Copyright 2006 Mary Desaulniers
Picture this—a woman in a red bodysuit, back arched on a narrow perch. A bar holds the base of her neck, a seat holds the small of her back as her body, well-toned, flexible with full musculature, secures itself onto the perch. Her left leg, straight and taut, is held high off the ground by powerful back and thigh muscles.
26). The Meaning of Hunger
Sometimes hunger is not simply hunger for food. It is hunger for the emergence of a new self, hunger for a birth that, like any other birth, is a labor in progress. Are we serious enough about our well-being to confront our hunger, turn its energy around so that it serves, rather than stifle, us?
27). Tricks to Get Better Sleep
You can trick the mind to get better sleep. The mind, after all, can be tricked into compliance, especially if you work at re-programming what it understands to be a time for wakefulness and a time for sleep.
28). The Bodysuit: The Taming Of the Bulge
A tailored outfit should look what it is meant to do—make you look sleek and tailored. No surprises. No bumps. No tell-tale bulges. That’s why when it comes to fashion ethics, the bodysuit is indispensable.
29). The Power of Thoughts on Plants and Water
Copyright 2006 Mary Desaulniers
My friend Debra believes fervently in the power of thoughts. When she wants something, she fixes its image in her mind, nourishes the thought daily with expectation and gratitude. Then she waits. Invariably, whether it takes 2 days, 2 months or 2 years, she gets what she desires. She has shown repeatedly that there is power in thoughts.
30). Symptoms of Narcolepsy
Copyright 2006 Mary Desaulniers
You’ve probably seen it in movies a hundred times—the caricature of narcoleptics: one moment they’re chatting with you over dinner; the next, they’re fast asleep, their faces in their dinner plates. This caricature, more hyperbolic than true, nevertheless points to a symptom of narcolepsy which makes narcoleptics vulnerable—their involuntary loss of muscle control.
31). Memory Loss And The Elusive Self
Copyright 2006 Mary Desaulniers
I have no fear of death, but I am deathly frightened of losing my mind and memory. The idea of being trapped in a stranger’s body, lost, adrift in thought and time is more than I can bear. Friends have laughed at my fear; they have countered with glib remarks: ”At least you wouldn’t know you are in that condition. You would be so far gone in memory loss that you wouldn’t know your body is deteriorating.
32). Abdominoplasty: To Tummy Tuck or Not To Tummy Tuck
Should you have a tummy tuck? Here are some considerations you should look at before signing up for the procedure.
33). The Benefits Of Sharing A Meal With Someone
We focus a great deal on what to eat, when to eat and how to eat. But do you know that eating with someone is just as important for your health? In our fast-paced, hectic world, families are finding fewer moments for meals together and they are missing out on an opportunity to feed the body both physically and emotionally.
34). Lung Cancer in Non -Smokers
The incidence of lung cancer in non-smokers has increased over the years.Smokers and non-smokers alike are vulnerable to a disease which is largely incurable. .In the face of a disease that seems to have neither rhyme nor reason, what can we do to protect ourselves?
35). What Are Phytonutrients?
Folk wisdom has always singled out fruits and vegetables as being indispensable for health, but it has only been within the last thirty years that we know why. Science and technology have isolated compounds in plants and vegetables that have literally been our life-savers. These are phytonutrients.Which fruits and vegetables provide the highest sources of phytonutrients?
