The Self Improvement Gym Profile and Articles

1). Change your mind and the rest will follow!
"Progress is impossible without change, and those who
cannot change their minds cannot change anything.”
- GEORGE BERNARD SHAW

Change has a very negative connotation for most people. On a deep emotional level we are creatures of comfort and we automatically seek out that which feels good in the moment. We long for comfort and this usually comes from that which we know; that which is familiar to us.

2). Count Your Chickens Before They've Hatched.
At some stage in your life, you've probably been told not to count your chickens before they have hatched. You were probably told to not get your hopes up and to not expect too much - just in case you might be disappointed. For most of us this, or some variation of it, was told to us over and over again by well meaning, but ill informed people. From an early age the idea of staying in an emotional "safe zone" was instilled in most of us until it eventually became belief systems that now control our behaviours.

3). Double Whammy: The Effects of Procrastination.
Procrastination, like all of your behaviours carries consequences. Whether your behaviour is conscious or unconscious, you will eventually have to deal with the effects. The effects of procrastination are something that we all have to confront and deal with from time to time. It's only natural to procrastinate at times but, the way you deal with your procrastination patterns will determine what effects procrastination has on your life.

4). Follow The Leader
Did you ever play the game follow the leader when you were younger? Perhaps you still play it without even knowing it. Leadership, I think is one of the most important characteristics required for creating an extraordinary life and living up to your true potential.

Leadership is not what most people think it is. It is not a skill and it is not a role, but it is a decision.

5). Great Expectations?
"Nobody succeeds beyond his or her wildest expectations unless he
or she begins with some wild expectations." - RALPH CHARELL

What are your expectations for your life? Are you excited about your future or are you facing it with apprehension and fear? For most people the future holds too many uncertainties and the fear of what might happens tends to overshadow the ray of light that represents the life they ultimately desire.

6). Looks can be perceiving.
"There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle." - ALBERT EINSTEIN

Don't you sometimes wish you had the ability to just change some bad experience in your life instantaneously? At times we all indulge in the lure of quick fixes and the challenge of working through our problems often seem too arduous and like there is no light at the end of the tunnel.

7). Self Confidence, Fear and the Inevitable Procrastination
One of the major reasons why most people avoid the very tasks that can free them from mediocrity is their lack of self confidence. Mediocrity is nothing but failing to live up to your true potential. What you can do is absolutely incredible. What you will do is often disappointing. Most people have been conditioned to only do what they ‘can’ do or to only do what they have been told they ‘can’ do or what they’ve successfully done before.

8). The ride of your life: who's driving?
One of the biggest challenges that most people face in the exiting times we live in, is the feeling that their lives are just spiralling out of control. They feel like the events and circumstances of their lives have lead them along a torturous route and that they have no control over all the misfortunes and wrong doings that brought them to this moment in time.

9). The root cause for procrastination.
Although there are many apparent causes for procrastination, the root cause for this illogical behaviour resides in your unconscious mind. Your conscious mind is very limited in its ability to deal with life. That over which you have conscious control is mostly limited to one thing at a time. This is why using your willpower to create any real change rarely works long term.

10). The small change that creates massive results in your life.
"It is never too late to become what you
might have been." - GEORGE ELIOT

I believe that we all reach certain key points in our lives. We all reach crossroads where our lives hit a certain threshold of "pain" that we are no longer willing to settle for. This threshold is very different for every person. I also believe that if you are unhappy with anything in your life then that is a call to action; a desire from deep within the "real" you that wants to experience more of life.

11). There is no place like now.
Most people in our culture today are so busy running around trying to arrange their lives to be somewhere else. We all want to be somewhere else geographically or financially or in our relationships. We want to be anywhere but here as we've been led to believe that if only we can be somewhere else then our lives would work. This escapism acts like a drug that only gives temporary relief to a chronic problem.

12). What are you really missing out on?
Life is all about experience. Most of us have quite a vast intellectual knowledge of the world. Intellectually we know what's available to us as human beings and although most people haven't got everything they want, they at least have an intellectual knowledge of it. They know what exists and they know what is available. There is, however a huge difference between intellectual knowledge and experiential knowledge.

13). What would you attempt to do if you know you could not fail?
The only way to eventually make any change in your life is to take action. Dreaming and hoping won’t do anything for you apart from making yourself feel more out of control. Having the desire for something and not being able to have and experience it is the ultimate pain in life. Fulfilment in life comes from fulfilling your needs and desires elegantly...

14). When thoughts become things.
We've all heard the saying that "talk is cheap." In fact we've heard it so often it's become a cliché. Like most cliché's the law of familiarity has set in and keeps us from actually absorbing the true meaning of the phrase. We've grown so tired of hearing it that we don't really listen to it anymore. The fact remains that talk is cheap. It is easy to talk about things and most people do.

15). Whyfore Art Though? Finding and living Your Purpose.
It's been said that great minds have purpose while others just have wishes. At some point in your life you've probably asked yourself the question "why am I here?" I think that most people with a healthy mind often ask this question and mostly at points in their lives when they are forced to take a time out. Socrates said that the unexamined life is not worth living and it is from examining our lives that we can look at it afresh and get a new perspective on why we are really here.

16). Your Foundational Key To Success
We live in a very competitive world. By nature there must always be a winner and a loser. This, however all depends on who’s rules you are playing by. See, you can only win or loose if you know what constitutes winning and loosing.

Winning and losing in life is an internal game and only you get to decide whether you are a success or a failure. The.

17). Your Success: Obtainable or Sustainable?
The desire to consistently improve your life is one of your most fundamental needs. That feeling that comes from knowing that everyday you are becoming more is part of your nature. Knowing that you are affecting and improving your environment through your own influence is immensely satisfying. It is a key ingredient in living a happy and fulfilled life.
