The prevailing winds in the summer months are from the west. It will blow from midday well into the evening. It may reach force 6 in July and August. In the spring and autumn winds will come from the east or west dependent on conditions in the adjacent Aegean or Ionian. The gulf of Patras is prone to thunderstorms in spring and autumn with attendant waterspouts.

But unlike the rest of the Aegean it is by no means guaranteed and if it does not blow winds are usually light and from the south. The prevailing wind in the south of the area is from the SE and it will blow from midday before calming in the evening.

8). Sailing in the Northern Dodecanese Islands
In the summer the prevailing wind is the Meltemi that blows from the N – NW. It blows from June through to October and at its peak may reach a force 7. The spring and autumn sees winds from the SE, usually with strengths between 2 – 4. Summer temperatures can rise to 35 deg C. The winters are mild.

The Dodecanese have been inhabited since prehistoric times.

The southern coast is notorious for strong squalls the blow down from the mountains. There is little in the way of warning and they can be violent close inshore.
