As anyone who has opened a newspaper or watched the news over the past few years knows, the Islamic Republic of Iran has been pursuing nuclear capability. Iran’s government insists its only goal is to develop nuclear power plants that would not threaten anyone. The United Nations, though, is concerned Iran might instead covet nuclear weapons. The United States is convinced that is the case.

Khaled Mash’al, leader of the Hamas movement which won the Palestinian elections in January 2006 gave a speech in Damascus which was broadcast on al-Jazeera TV on February 3rd 2006. He told the European nations to apologise to Islam because: ‘Tomorrow, our nation will sit on the throne of the world. This is not a figment of the imagination, but a fact.

Many disturbing words are written about Ahmadinejad, Iran’s leader. That he believes the next Imam is coming. That a child who was thrown down a well will rise again. That he denies the holocaust. That he supports the cause of the working class in Iran. That he wants his country to have nuclear power. But let's not be hasty about his beliefs. America has a leader who believes that a man who was nailed to a tree two thousand years ago will save him from Hell.
