1). Supreme Court Justices Unethical Behavior? By : Chris McElroy
We have all read about Jack Abramoff and how lobbying is done in Washington. Trips, dinners, campaign funding, and other perks paid for by lobbyists in return for favors the politicians can do for their clients.
But our Supreme Court Justices should be beyond reproach. They are not elected, but appointed. They are in that position for life or until they decide to retire.

Forcible rape and attempted forcible rape between people who know each other, either casually or well, make up a sizeable percentage of the false accusations in the criminal justice system. The cry of rape or abuse is a familiar cry when a relationship goes sour or when a woman has second thoughts after a night of sex or near intimacy. While there are certainly legitimate claims of rape and attempted rape in the world, from the defendant’s perspective there are good reasons to view each claim with skepticism.

What is a Structured Settlement? A Structured Settlement is a Settlement in which you receive “Structured” payments on a regular basis. In other words, it is a payment plan, in which, instead of getting a large lump sum, you receive smaller payments in increments. These increments go on weekly, monthly or yearly cycles. These settlements are often known as a win-win situation because the payer needs to come up with a lot less money up-front and the payee has a steady stream of income coming in at all times.

Many legal professionals are exposed to Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in the courtroom. As discussed in the last issue of Courtroom FEA, if a loss, injury or death is due to something bending or breaking, FEA can help identify the cause of failure and hence the responsible party.

Hand calculations are good.
It is very important that design engineers do hand calculations. It is very important that engineering expert witnesses do hand calculations.
For everything but the simplest of part geometries, hand calculations of stress are generally rough estimates. Often they are only in the ballpark of the true maximum stress levels.
