  • 2). A Case for the Radish  By : Nicky Pilkington
They sit left behind on relish trays. They’re often by-passed in grocery store refrigerator shelves. Dad and Grandpa usually eat them but later complain of belching them up. The poor radish has gotten a bum rap. There are at least five different varieties; but for now, the popular, red globe variety will be spotlighted. They are a great source of vitamin C and an excellent low calorie snack (only 12 calories in a half cup of radishes). Radishes are root vegetables that are classified in the cabbage and mustard family, thus their strong taste.

  • 7). Choosing A Juicer  By : Jane Thurnell-Read
There are many advantages to eating fruit and vegetables raw. Water-soluble vitamins (such as vitamin C) are destroyed by heating, so there will be less vitamin C in a cooked carrot than in a similar raw carrot. But for some nutrients, cooking (and juicing) is more nutritious, because it makes the nutrients more easily assimilated. Cooking and juicing breaks down tough fibres and allows the digestive juices to work more effectively on the vegetable.

  • 9). Are you a Weight Watcher?  By : Nicky Pilkington
The decision to lose weight is not one that many people make lightly - excuse the pun. Often, it has been flitting around in the mind for years. It may even have been reached, acted on and abandoned as another fad diet bit the dust. Then, a rogue photograph appears depicting you doing your best whale impression, or you are unexpectedly required to move quickly (perhaps during a fire drill at work, where everyone sees you panting), and almost expire from the effort. Shamed into action you decide once again that another attempt to shed weight will be worthwhile.

  • 11). Carbohydrates: Good vs. Bad  By : Ken_B
Carbohydrates are our main source of fuel, especially for our brains. Completely eliminating them from your diet isn't a very good idea. Simple carbs such as soda, candy and other snacks that provide our body with no vitamins and minerals, just pure energy are known as empty calories. Too many of these can lead to obesity and diabetes. On the other hand, complex carbs provide us with an abundance of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

  • 17). Dietary Supplements – Calcium and Magnesium  By : Nicky Pilkington
Many health care professionals don’t see the need for supplements of vitamins and minerals, but it is possible to become deficient in these building blocks for the human body when we are under the stress of illness, pregnancy or aging. Children can often eat junk foods to excess and miss out on their daily nutritional requirements. The unborn child makes heavy nutritional demands on the mother, while those in the older age bracket often find their stomach doesn’t absorb nutrients like it should.

  • 20). The Best Juicer  By : john
From the moment health experts begun discussing the unique nutrients and important elements fruits and vegetables contain, people are browsing through kitchen utensil shelves in their effort to locate the best juicer that can help them stay healthy. However, as different equipment are used to perform a variety of functions, choosing a juicer is not only a matter of price, brand, or shape, but rather an issue of covering the specific consumer needs.

  • 21). Improve Your Eating Habits  By : Clare Evans
Rates of obesity and ill-health due to poor diets are rising, both in the UK and in the US. I don't agree with diets. After all, now many of them really work? No, I mean really work. Diets are a restricted eating regime that is not about real life. The only way to lose weight is to eat less and exercise more. If you want a diet for life then you need to adjust your eating habits.

  • 23). Pesticides: Cause For Concern?  By : Jane Thurnell-Read
Many people are, in my opinion, rightly concerned about pesticides. 31,000 tons of pesticides are sprayed on UK land each year. Farm workers may have direct, intense contact with pesticides, but the general population are also exposed to pesticides via residues in and on food, pesticides in the air, as a result of spraying in fields, pesticides applied to road sides to control weeds, and even pesticide contamination of drinking water.
