2). World Cup Goalkeepers - Jean-Jacques Tizie By : Keith MacLean
Jean-Jacques Tizié started his career as a handball goalkeeper. But he later developed interest in football and started playing for local clubs. Among the major clubs that he played for were Lazer FC, Africa Sport and Stade d'Abidjan. In 2001, he moved to Espérance in Tunisia, and has been their goalkeeper ever since.
The 1.83 meters tall Tizie, who was born in 1972, has also been keeping the goal for his country Ivory Coast.

Born in Essen, Germany in 1969, Jens Lehmann’s soccer career kicked off in 1989 with FC Schalke where he played for almost 10 years before moving on to AC Milan in 1998.
Said to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world, Lehmann created a name for himself while with Schalke. However, after signing up with Milan, his performance took a dip and he was dropped from the squad after just five matches.

Stipe Pletikosa is a Croatian goalkeeper who donned his country's jersey at the tender age of 20. It was a debut that won both applause as well as brickbats for the young lad. The praise came for his quick reflexes and for the speed with each Pletikosa moved in front of the goal line; the criticism was directed at his inability to handle high balls, despite a 193 cm frame.

Born in Jan 28, 1978, Gianluggi Buffon is Italy’s number 1 goalkeeper and considered by many to be among the current top five soccer goalkeepers in the world. Gianluggi, better known as ‘Gigi’, has the distinction of being the most expensive goalkeeper in soccer history. He was transferred from Parma to Juventus for a record fee of £33 million, which is the highest amount paid ever for a goalkeeper.

Famous for his bald head, the son of a famous rugby player, 34-year-old Fabien Barthez is technically an excellent soccer player who could possibly have also made a career in an outfield position. Considered the top goalkeeper in France, he lost his place to Lyon's Gregory Coupet after being banned for eight months (April-October 2005) for spitting at a referee.

Paul Robinson was born in Hull, England and graduated from the Leeds United soccer academy. Having proven himself to be a very confident and agile shot stopper, 27-year-old Paul Robinson has since matured into one of Europe’s leading keepers. He worked hard to edge David James as the number one goalkeeper in England a few years ago. He played a key role in England’s World Cup qualification and will be donning the Number 1 jersey when his team begin their challenge next month.
